Sites that use the rel=nofollow tag to link to you or sites that use a redirect to link to you will not help you, also the search engines look at the text that links to you, if you are trying to rank for the phrase blue widgets ,how can you get a site to link to your phrase in text.

See, search engines will not include you this link into link graph but it does follow your backlink to discover the content. And, if algo finds it quality rich it may rank your website for this phrase.

See, content is for your readers not for search engine. So, first thing to keep in mind is the readability of the text. Make sure what you are writing is grammatically right with no spelling errors.

Second thing, to make it search engine friendly you can insert few tageted keywords (but do not over do it... it, otherwise, ruins the readability)

Third thing, proper formatting is what both readers and search engines love. Inset proper headlines along with tags.
