Well I guess it depends on how much you want to optimize your website, what keywords you to rank for and so on. Some seo companies offer tailored products for the customers, depending on how much they can spend. And make a lot of money doing so.

The amount of money that you are charged for the SEO of your website varies according to the keywords that you would like to rank for and what kind of optimization you want to have done.

It depends on what techniques your client wants or needs and also the main purpose your client wants to gain. One client might want to get more traffic and don't care about how many backlinks. Another client wants you to get bulk backlinks instantly for link building purposes. One can also only choose one technique. It really varies, and you have to compare the rate yourself by comparing to other SEO service providers. But, I'd better discuss it with the client most of the time.

SEO involves On-page optimization and off-page optimization, if the client is looking for both then it also takes time and more work, so for this you can charge 600$ for a month...on-page optimization include HTML code, meta tags, keywords...it takes less time to research as compare to off-page optimization which includes submissions, link building, commenting...More work you do more you can charge..

There's two ways I would charge for SEO when I sold my services (please don't take that the wrong way)-

$xx for xx backlinks

and

$xx for xx page

When I hire an SEO consultant he usually charges me per hour like $10-$25 per hour. I negotiate with him in advance and discuss what he will get done in say 24 hours. Then arrange a final sum for the work agreed. So i guess you could charge per hour.

Hourly: According to a study conducted by the software as a service company Moz, the most common hourly rate for SEO professionals worldwide is between $76 and $200. Project-based: The most common per-project rate for SEO professionals worldwide is between $1,000 and $7,500

As you can see, we can reasonably guess that an average hourly SEO costs something between $80 and $130 per hour. Further, the average monthly retainer lies somewhere between $750 and $1500 per month.
