To enable Akismet on your WordPress blog, go to the Plugins panel and activate the Plugin. You will be prompted to get an API key from Akismet.com after you sign up for a payment plan. After Akismet is activated, you'll see a menu added to the Comments Panel that holds a list of "caught" comment spam.

Here are some of the common methods that you could put into practice, to keep spam comment at bay -

1. Cut down the number of links allowed per post

2. Make a list of ‘blacklisted’ words

3. Create a comment moderation system

4. Limit comment privileges to registered users only

5. Use an anti-spam plugin

6. Opt for a third-party comments plugin

Square spam in remarks

Sign in to your WordPress site as the overseer.

From the Dashboard, go to Settings. | Discussions (Figure A).

In the following screen, uncheck the choice for Allow People To Post Comments On New Articles.

Look down and snap Save Changes.

Reduce the number of links allowed per post.
Create a list of 'blacklisted' words.
Set up a comment moderation system.
Restrict comment privileges to registered users.
Use an anti-spam plugin, such as Akismet.
Move to a third-party comments plugin.
