SERP is an acronym that can make your online marketing campaign. SERP is short for search engine results page. One of the best ways to increase your ranking in the SERPs is to build a portfolio of high-quality links that point back to your site. Create great content that others will naturally want to link to and reach out to related websites that may be interested in linking to your site.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "ranking" as that could be defined a number of different ways.  Typing "Memorial Matters" into Google pulls your site up as the first result.  If you want to test how you rank with other keywords then you'll need to use one of the many automated tools available with a quick Google search.  If you are speaking about PageRank, there are sites dedicated to showing you this as well or you can install the Google Toolbar for FireFox which will display it if turned on.

You should never do article syndication/promotions on other sites UNTIL youre own is indexed!

What supposedly happened is that Google crawled the promotion site before it crawled yours, and therefore established that they are the owners if this article, since they published it first, even though they didn't.

Usually these sites has a lot of content updated regularly which is why Google crawl them more often. I would write to and tell them to remove it.

What you can do is use fetch as Google Bot in GWT, and send your article for indexation, and when you see you article appearing when doing a site: then and first THEN do you promote it on other sites (with a link back to your site)
