Firstly, what do you mean by "supporting keyword"? I too use the adwords keyword research tool, but usually use [exact] option! Try and divide the number of searches to the number of exact results of the keyword and you will obtain a number defining how advantageous a keyword is.

A Google AdWords representative will call you in 3-5 working days to set up your Google advertising

what is supporting keyword?? I think Google keyword tool shows all those keywords which are related to your search and there are many options to customize your search

Doing PPC campaign and trying to target selective broad related terms which are not the obvious "long tails" could give you just what you are after. It's a matter of testing.

Google analytics is a great tool for key word analysis. I personally recommend this as it finds the keywords best suited for google and it is the most used search engine.

While SEMRush is offered as a minimal usage tool without creating a paid account, you can still get some very valuable information out of it without having to pay. Head over there and enter your competitors website address.

SEMRush will spit out a bunch of useful information, but we're focused here just on what keywords they are ranking for (while you're here you can see who they consider other competitors and do some spying on them as well). In the left sidebar underneath "Organic Research", you'll be able to see where the website you entered ranks in the top 200 and what their search engine ranking positions are. The video below is a more detailed look from the SEMRush team at using this organic research tool to spy on your competitors.
