Hundreds of incoming spam links :(
« on: 09-08-2016, 22:03:27 »
Hi guys

Im working with a site which hasn't had much attention in 5 years. It used to be on the 1st page for Google and the domain is approx 13 years old with some good quality links.

I noticed recently from Google Web master tools that there is a huge amount of spammy links pointing at the site which seem to advertise pharma links, downloadable PDFs etc

needless to say this has had a huge effect on the rankings.

Is the best solution here to use GWT disavow tool to eliminate them?

I've just redesigned and rebuilt the site in an up to date CMS and the site wasn't riddled with virus. Just wondering why then there are so many spam links.

Also, whats the best long term way to combat this? For example if I search my domain name in Google and limit results to 24 hours, I can see these links are regenerating every few days etc.

Thanks

There are so many spam links because the website has been abandoned for many years in that the activities of online visitors wasn't thoroughly monitored most esp when they are posting comments whether it is relevant to the topic or not. if there is any tool you can use to begin deleting the spam links, use it. Make sure you activate the moderation settings to avoid any further spam links from forming up. if your website is made of WordPress platform, you can easily turn on the moderation in the comment posts and begin deleting the spam link comments by mass-selecting and deleting them.

Be sure to shorten the links in your pins' descriptions, too, if you really want to get marked as spam. Marketers who are particularly on the top of the the position will remain on top.
