Image optimization is a process of place a image in good position in search engines. Need perfect keyword research and place it caption at every image. you can also use meta tag for image. It is very good technique for site promotion . The difference between JPEG and GIF is the way that they compress the data. JPEG compression is designed to optimize photographs or images with fine gradations of color.

Hello Charter
Image optimization is the process of optimizing your image with alt tags. Google cannot read images. So you use the "alt" Alt tag is meant to be an alternative information source the both tags are primarily meant for visitors (though alt text seems more important for crawlers) so provide explicit information on an image to encourage them to view it or get them interested... ;)

This term is used to describe the process of image slicing and resolution reduction. This is done to make file sizes smaller so images will load faster.

Google Image optimization is not a complicated process and only requires that you pay consideration to how you label and use your images within the regular framework of your website. A lot of image optimization involves basic search optimization factors such as the enclosure of relevant keywords in the content, title and Meta tags.
