Selecting the right keywords to optimize a site is a difficult job and it becomes even more difficult when it is about long tail keywords. Is it important to focus on the length of the long tail keywords?

The length of long tail keyword depends upon the service/product you target. At some cases traffic and leads reduces due to lengthy long tail keywords. Most commonly it might be 3 to 5 words count.

See, length of long tail keyword entirely depends on your user... If they are very long, they might pull less traffic.

I would advise you to use 'Keyword Country' to dig profitable long tail keywords for your website.

Short tail keywords are incredibly important to drive traffic and get visitors to your site. Keywords that were 11-15 characters generated the bulk of impressions, clicks, and conversions. This is consistent with the adage that the head generates most of the volume.

Long tail keywords are very important. It is better to target long tail keyword and get relevant traffic then to target short keywords trying to bring them on rank. Long tail keywords not only get easily ranked, but also looks genuine to the users unlike targeting your main keyword every time which looks spammy and unprofessional.
