Title: Is SEO dead
Post by: Nicpoint45 on 04-20-2010, 18:40:44
I'm throwing this out there as a conceptual question of sorts:

Is SEO dead in the long run?

I mean, as technology gets more and more advanced, will Google and other search engines start discounting activities that are done just for the sake of search rankings?

I think things like quality incoming links will always count, but I'd imagine that as technology advances Google will eventually want to judge content and sites a standalone basis, with a smaller emphasis on all the little extra things that people do to get ranked. (commenting on dofollow blogs, article marketing, etc.)

Technology will change things no doubt, but I dont think SEO will be dead.
yeh they could place more emphasis on the site itself, especially if they come out with something that can detect quality content.
But I dont see a lot changing at least in the next 5 - 10 years...

Me neither I don't think SEO will die but the methods like backlink spamming and irrelevant ads will get more & more useless.  As search engines keep optimizing I think maybe the top results for each keyword will stop changing as much, that's just my opinion.

No it will never be dead but certainly if your focus is to put up crap sites just for serp purposes then yes your job is gonna get harder and harder, certainly search manipulation which is what some SEO'ers do is getting penalised hard!

I think what you really mean mate is .... "Is black hat seo dead" and for that the answer is and will always be, that yes it's a dieing breed. Loopholes will always exist but if you build good content and optimise your sites the proper way you'll find it's a skill that will never die.

I'm a fan of natural SEO, putting out useful content backlinks and good content on your site.  If you force SEO on a basic site you really won't see great results.

This thread made me laugh a little. I don't think SEO will be dead. As long as there are search engines they will need some kind of system by which ithey can assess which pages are more important and which are less. There is a chance however, the techniques might change a little, but SEO won't

SEO will never die, I still end up helping people with poorly targeted advertising, and bad search engine rankings.
Badly designed sites will always be with us.

It's not uncommon for people to be asking this question. Especially when technoology is changing so fast. But the fact of the matter is that SEO will remain around for quite some time because of it's complexity.

Technology is changing and the techniques used in SEO are also steadily changing, but I don't think seo itself will be dead. I mean it is the basis of all search engines.

No way! SEO isn't going any way at least for the next 10 years. It's well established and is used on many different platforms on the internet, even though there are a few things different here and there but the system works fine.

Did not understand your post.
Seo is not dead. It's always changing because SEs algorithms are changing continually.

Why are you asking about the death of SEO? As long as search engines exist, Search Engine Optimization will always exist too. That is the competition. Only the methods will change as technology keeps advancing. What I come up to is, will Google stay on top or will new king be born and change the whole SEO techniques work. It’s not fully impossible. Maybe Yahoo or Bing will replace Google or maybe not.

SEO stands for search engine optimization which means optimizing information in such a way that it shows up in the top of the search results pages.

Last time I checked every social media site out there has a search engine that allows members or visitors to search the site for certain information. The SEO’ers job is getting bigger not smaller.

However, the SEO landscape is changing at a rapid pace and this will cause some SEO people to either get more specific in the services they offer or to get out of it all together.

I hope, SEO will die one day. There will not be SEO swindlers anymore, which make money by cheating not experienced web-masters.
If people could understand that they should make their site only for people and not for search engines there would not be any necessity in search engines optimizers.
