Basically it's any time you get a backlink to your site from another site. Backlinks from good sites give you more link juice. Google looks at how sites link to each other to figure out which ones are the best, so the more link juice you have the better off you are.

PageRank can be passed from one site to another through links. PageRank passing from one site to another or one page to another is referred to as link juice. Link Juice is mostly referred to as the factors which are affecting the rankings of the website browsers or other contents when they are searched over the search engines. The inbound links are associated with the Link juice technique and those are affected the most.

About paid links. There are many websites that use paid links and are able to rank high in SERP. Good thing about them is they are still on top until now. The question is, How Google tracks paid links? Do they have the capability of detecting if a link that links to your site is paid or not?

If they do, then why would those sites that are in page 1 or even number 1 in their SERP are still there even with paid links? If they do know how to track paid links, those who sells the so-called "high PR links" would never exist.

Link juice is nothing but amount of PR credibility passes from one site to another by do-follow link attribute. No-follow site with high PR and less outbound links tends to give more link juice.

The SEO term 'link juice' refers to the search engine 'trust' (i.e. credibility) and/or page rank conveyed by a link from one site to another. A site with high 'trust' or page rank provides more link juice than one that doesn't.
