My site url is opening with .html and .php extension. Will it harm search engine

Hi There
  I have changes url structure of my exiting site. My site url extension was .php and i rewrited it .html. Now my url is opening with both extension. Will search engine consider it duplicate url. Should i use canonical code.

If you are using html as you a new url extension, your pages should only have the html extension instead of the php.

I am not sure whether it's going to be considered as duplicate, but I'd suggest you to fix the problem because your url should only have the extension that you are currently using.

You must fix this problem whether it affects SE or not. You need to validate your website from this bug. On-page SEO validates your website and makes it free from errors.

after fixing this issue will my search engine ranking go down. If it affect my search engine ranking than is there any way to decrease the chances to get ranking down ?
