Page Hijacking

Page hijacking is achieved by creating a rogue copy of a popular website which shows contents similar to the original to a web crawler but redirects web surfers to unrelated or malicious websites.

It is achieved by creating a copy of popular website. By this web crawler couldn't analyse that as a copied web site. And when visitors search for the popular web site it automatically redirects to some other page. By this high ranking is achieved for certain keyword. It is similar to cloaking technique. If two pages have the same content, only one of the URLs will be kept. A spammer will try to ensure that the copied website is the one shown on the result pages.

As per my point of view page hijacking is a form of search engine index spamming. It is achieved by creating a rogue copy of a popular website which shows contents similar to the original to a web crawler, but redirects web surfers to unrelated or malicious websites.

According to Wikipedia

An important part of Google's algorithm is duplicate content. If multiple pages on the web have the same content, only the one that Google believes is the original/authority remains. This is a technique to fool Google into thinking that the wrong one is the original, therefore deindexing the real deal.

It's not easy to fool google. People should not go for page hijacking. It is a black hat seo technique for google algorithms so avoid it. Stick to white hat seo which gives you higher ranking.

Page hijacking is a technical form of redirecting Web traffic that exploits certain glitches in search engines. Page hijacking involves creating a site that roughly duplicates the content of an existing site, then games search engine ranking systems to make sure that the second, duplicated site gets more recognition than the original. The goal in page hijacking is to make the second page more prominent than the first.
