PR and SEO ? Do they go hand in hand ?
« on: 05-08-2010, 06:01:08 »
hey ho seo masters  ;D

Whenever I'm on DP i always see the debate about SEO and PR being irrelevant and not related but I thought PR talks about site authority or popularity ? surely if a site has good SEO it's popular and surely if a site has high PR it's popular too. So there must be some link and if you're doing well on the SEO rankings, surely you're PR should be high and going up too ?

Right ? Wrong ? Any feedback with specific examples and experiences for particular sites would be great. I don't want people to just respond with random speculation lol...

The simple answer is that no one is really 100% sure.

From personal experience at times they can move hand in hand, and at other times they can be totally misrepresenting. i.e. a site has lots of traffic for top keywords but the PR is very low i.e. 0-2.

Other times I've seen sites that are PR6 getting as little as 10 unique visitors per day. The truth is that in theory they should go hand in hand but in reality there's nothing further from the truth :)

Hope that helps buddy!

I think they do go hand in hand.  SEO creates PR imo.  If you can optimize for search engines your page rank will eventually go up as your traffic increases from the search engines.

I don't believe they have anything to do with each other, but now one except google knows how the evaluate the PR. I think there are some factors that affect the PR which also play a part in seo, however, there are some that don't.

I believe that SEO is how useful the site is and PR is the quality of the site. I could be wrong there is no sure way to tell, only the folks at google know that one for sure.

I think to some extent they do go hand in hand. Most of the high ranked websites have higher pr so I think there are many things they must have in common.

I think that PR and SEO are two completely different things. I have seen sites getting tons of traffic with zero PR, and the sites were getting 100% organic traffic from search engines.

I never really saw the connection between the pr and seo. In the beginning I thought there was some kind of connection between the two, but I don't see any now.

Link Building works best when you have a one way link from another quality site to your own. The most important part of the optimization process happens off the page – with links from external sites back to yours playing a vital role in telling Google and other search engines how important your site really is.An important component of Search Engine Optimization is to gain inbound links from quality, relevant web sites. When a business or other institution has positive relations with the public, people are more likely to voluntarily post links to it on their web sites and blogs.

In summary, successful PR and SEO campaigns both improve the public’s perception of a company and increase its search engine generated traffic. Companies should use an integrated approach, rather than treating SEO and PR as entirely separate efforts.

SEO focuses on getting your site to the top of the search engine results, but you don't have to have a high PR to be at the top of the search engine results.  In fact, I've seen sites with PR 0 in the top spot.  PR is used to determine how much of an authority site you are, but a higher page rank won't necessarily get you more traffic.  You should be more focused on SEO (both on-site and off) to increase your search engine ranking.  Your position in the search results is a way bigger factor in your traffic than your page rank.
