Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the visibility of a website on organic by incorporating search engine friendly elements into a website. A successful search engine optimization campaign will have, as part of the improvements, carefully select, relevant, keywords. Search engine optimization is broken down into two basic areas: on-page, and off-page optimization. On-page It includes providing good content, good keywords selection, putting keywords on correct places, giving appropriate title to every page, etc.Off-page It includes link building, increasing link popularity by submitting open directories, search engines, link exchange, etc.

A canonical tag specifies the source URL of a given page to a search engines. Canonical tags are used to declare a single page as its own source or for duplicate pages to reference their source  page. Search Engines use the canonical tag to combat duplicate content issues and assign search engine ranking  value for that content to the page designated as the "source" URL.

Having pages of identical or very similar content on your website is seen as a negative, and may be used by Google to devalue your website when determining rankings.

By properly employing canonical tags to pages on your site, you can avoid this pitfall and take full advantage of both a robust site and streamlined Search Engine Optimization practices.

Canonical tags are used to tell search search engines that the selected one is the best page from among-st the others. It is used when we have several pages with similar content & we need to tell search engines the most probable page for searched terms.

hi,

If you have blog or a website and feel that some content seems like the duplicate content, then you can redirect all duplicate content to original or the relevant page in your website.

It will save you to be penalized by the Google.

Canonical URL allows you to tell search engines thar certain similar URLs are actually one and the same. Sometimes you have products or content that is accessible under multiple URLs, or even on multiple websites. Using a canonical URL these can exaist without harming your rankings.
Choosing a proper canonical URL for every  set of similar URLs improves the SEO of your site. Because the search engine knows qwhich  version is canonical, it can count all the links towards all the different versions. as links to that single version. Basically, setting a canonical is similar to doing a 301 redirect, but without actually redirecting.

A canonical tag (aka "rel canonical") is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page. Using the canonical tag prevents problems caused by identical or "duplicate" content appearing on multiple URLs. Practically speaking, the canonical tag tells search engines which version of a URL you want to appear in search results.
<link rel="canonical' href="http://www.digitalpugs.com/">
In this code canonical tag is action.
