Search engine submission is useful but it is not enough, I think you should do some link building technique in quality website so crawler can easily and fast indexed your website. You can also get some back link and visitor by link building technique.

There are so many ways to submit your site.
Back link Generation is the very first step for any site which is newly Registered in any search engine.

Just Because of Directory Submission the search engine knows about your page that their is a site with this content etc.

After the submission of directory you can post your blog, Classified, Social Bookmarking and Article submission etc...

your site rank is depends upon your keyword selection. how you select your keywords.

Agreed with Sevam. The best results are achieved from directory submission. Directory sites crawl faster then other sites.
