Title: SEO -A beginners Guide
Post by: Vinil on 03-20-2012, 04:34:45
hello all,
You all know what is SEO but still face problems issues, etc .So i thought lets share some points with you ,you all must remember for success of SEO .Correct me if wrong
1 SEO is done for making a webs ite comes in view of major search engine like google, yahoo, bing etc

2 Two major practices are followed here -Off page and ON page

3 ON page SEO- deal with website itself in following manner
a) Placement of keywords
b) Meta tags, meta keywords(GOOGLE dont consider it ),content, sitemap, robots.txt, analytics setup for tracking and control of website
c) Keywords must be  RELATED to the page we are placing upon.
d) Keyword density should be approx 3-4% enough
e) NEVER repeat keywords in title, meta keywords or anywhere on the site
f) URL optimization
g) URL re-written
h) Removal of iFrames, performing html validations etc

4)OFF page SEO deal with generating more & more backlinks ,hence includes -
a) Directory submission
b) Social Bookmarkings
c) Article submission
d) Blog commenting
e) Forums
f)  RSS submission(in case of SEO of BLOG)
g) BLOG posting(relevant and unique content only)
h) LINK exchange
i)CLASSIFIEDS(IF you want to increase traffic)
REMEMBER to target the most important keywords each time will give results but EXCESS of using the same keyword may ban the site due to spamming

5)Healthy Tips
a)Do follow and NO follow links both are beneficial
b)There is no such things like benefits of SEO,In fact you are getting is itself good then why to run before advantages
c)Each method you follow for SEO (White hat ) do work equally .
c)To maintain ranking in search engines ,you need to perform off page continuously
d)Follow the ethical recommendations for best results .You cant get highest ranking overnight
f)DO create sitemap -one in xml(for web crawlers) and other in html (for visitors)
g)NOT to prefer any tool other than Google's tool fro SEO .DO submission manually.
h)When beginning SEO for a site, try to capture the highest PR SMO sites first ,along with do follow
i)I am again emphasizing increasing the PR is not in our hand .We can just put fresh content ,increase traffic but PR depends how much your content is beneficial to other.
j)Dont go with false myths and conclusions Do become a regular reader of Google blog for more updates
k)No one is perfect but practice makes one thing easier-the ease of getting results
l)Do read blogs over internet for best practices, discuss in forums, here also ,your issues and lots of things you may want to ask in appropriate section

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing a website to improve its visibility and ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). SEO involves making changes to your website design and content that make it more appealing to a search engine. The ultimate goal of SEO is to improve your website's visibility in search engines, which ultimately leads to more traffic and potential customers or users.

Here's a beginner's guide to SEO:

Understanding SEO

At its core, SEO involves making your website more attractive to search engines. This is done through two primary methods:

On-Page SEO: This involves optimizing various elements within your website, including the content, HTML source code, title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, and internal links.

Off-Page SEO: This involves efforts outside of your website to improve its search engine rankings, such as link-building from other reputable websites, social signals (shares, likes, etc.), and other marketing activities outside your own website.

Keyword Research

Keywords are the terms that people enter into search engines. Identifying the right keywords for your business is a foundational aspect of SEO. Tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush and Moz Keyword Explorer can help you find relevant keywords.

Optimizing Your Website

Once you've identified your keywords, you need to optimize your website for those keywords. This is done by incorporating the keywords into various parts of your website, like the title tags, meta descriptions, URLs, content, and images.

Building Backlinks

Backlinks (links to your site from other websites) are one of the primary factors that influence your site's ranking on search engines. When other websites link to yours, this signals to search engines that your site provides valuable content. There are many ways to build backlinks, including guest blogging, social media sharing, collaborating with influencers, and more.

Tracking Your SEO Efforts

SEO isn't a one-and-done strategy; it requires continuous effort and monitoring. You can use tools like Google Analytics and Search Console to track how well your SEO efforts are working. You can track metrics like organic traffic, bounce rate, conversion rate, and more.

Mobile Optimization

With the increasing use of mobile devices to access the internet, having a mobile-friendly website is crucial. Google uses mobile-friendliness as one of the ranking factors in their algorithm.

Local SEO

If you're a business with a physical location or serving a geographically defined area, local SEO is very important. This involves optimizing your website for local search results, setting up a Google My Business listing, and getting positive online reviews.

Technical SEO

This involves optimizing your website for the crawling and indexing phase. With technical SEO, you can help search engines access, crawl, interpret and index your website without any problems. It includes XML sitemap submission, creating a robots.txt file, checking your website's loading speeds, and improving the user experience.

more detail and a few additional key tips for beginners getting started with SEO:

Understand Search Engine Algorithm Updates: Search engines, especially Google, frequently update their algorithms to provide the most relevant and high-quality results to their users. As an SEO practitioner, it's essential to understand these updates and adjust your SEO strategies accordingly.

Creating High-Quality Content: Content creation plays a crucial role in SEO. Google ranks websites that consistently produce high-quality, relevant content higher in search results. Your content should be engaging and valuable to the visitors.

Use of Long-Tail Keywords: While doing keyword research, don't just focus on high-volume keywords; consider long-tail keywords as well. These are longer, more specific variations of the primary keyword and typically have less competition, making it easier to rank for them.

Optimizing Images and Videos: Make sure all your images have alt text with appropriate keywords. This helps search engine crawlers understand the content of your images. Also, optimize your videos with proper titles, descriptions, and tags containing relevant keywords.

Improving User Experience (UX): Website loading speed, mobile-friendliness, easy navigation, and providing valuable content all contribute to better user experience, which is a key ranking factor.

Structured Data and Schema Markup: By using Schema Markup, you can help search engines understand the context of your content, making your web pages appear more prominently in SERPs. This can integrate with the rich snippets that provide users with extra information about your website right in the search results, which can improve click-through rates.

Safe and Secure Website (HTTPS): Google prefers sites that are secure. Having a URL that starts with "https://" rather than just "http://" can give you a slight ranking advantage.

Social Media Integration and Promotion: While social media signals don't have a direct impact on search rankings, they affect your search engine optimization efforts in primarily four ways: increased online visibility and traffic to your website, increased authority and brand recognition, broader content distribution, and longer content lifespan.

Voice Search Optimization: With the growing popularity of voice assistants like Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant, and Apple's Siri, optimizing for voice search is becoming increasingly important. Voice search optimization often involves targeting long-tail keywords and structuring your content in a Q&A style to match the conversational tone of voice search.

Continuous Learning and Adaptability: SEO is always evolving, and the strategies that were effective a year ago might not work today. To be successful in SEO, you need to be willing to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and changes in search engine algorithms.

Here are some more advanced concepts and strategies:

E-A-T Principle: Google's search quality guidelines highlight the importance of Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T). High-quality content is created by experts, is authoritative on the topic, and is trustworthy. Paying attention to these factors can help in improving rankings.

Schema Markup for SEO: Schema markup, a type of microdata, makes it easier for search engines to parse and interpret the information on your webpages more effectively so they can serve relevant results to users based on search queries. By adding schema markup to HTML, it can improve the way your page displays in SERPs by enhancing the rich snippets that are underneath the page title.

Core Web Vitals: These are a set of factors that Google considers important in a webpage's overall user experience. They include loading time (LCP - Largest Contentful Paint), interactivity (FID - First Input Delay), and visual stability (CLS - Cumulative Layout Shift). These metrics are going to have a significant impact on your SEO ranking as Google has made it clear that it rewards sites that offer a good user experience.

Using AI and Machine Learning in SEO: Artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming increasingly vital in SEO. Google's algorithm uses AI to better understand and interpret user search intent, and SEO tools are becoming more sophisticated using AI to provide insights and drive SEO strategies.

Video SEO: With the growth in popularity of video content and platforms like YouTube, optimizing your videos to be found by search engines can be a valuable addition to your SEO strategy. This can involve optimizing video titles, descriptions, and tags, as well as ensuring that your videos are easy to find and share on your website and social media platforms.

Zero-Click Searches: More than half of all Google searches now end without a click, due to Google providing answers directly in SERP features (like featured snippets, 'People also ask' boxes, Local Packs) so that users don't need to click on any link. So, optimizing for featured snippets and other Google SERP features can help you capture traffic in this new zero-click search landscape.

SEO Audits: An SEO audit is a process for evaluating the search engine friendliness of a website in multiple areas. This is an essential part of any SEO strategy and can assess your website for technical problems, website structure issues, on-page SEO elements, off-page SEO factors and user experience.

Future of SEO - Voice, Visual, Vertical: SEO techniques and strategies need to evolve with changing technology and user behavior. Voice search optimization is becoming more important with the rise of voice assistants and smart speakers. Visual search is growing as more people are using image-led searches. Vertical search, where people search within a specific category or sector (like on Amazon for products, or on TripAdvisor for travel), is also an important consideration for businesses in these spaces.

areas to explore:

International SEO: If your business operates in multiple countries, you will need to apply international SEO strategies. This can involve geotargeting, ensuring your website is accessible (and translates effectively) in other languages, and understanding specific cultural contexts and regulatory conditions.

Mobile SEO: The introduction of mobile-first indexing by Google made it clear that the mobile version of your website becomes the starting point for what Google includes in their index. This makes mobile optimization critical. It involves making sure your website is responsive (adjusts and displays properly on any device), has fast page loading times, and provides a solid user experience for mobile users.

Local SEO: For businesses that operate in a specific geographic area, local SEO is crucial. This involves optimizing your online presence to attract more business from local searches. It can include claiming and optimizing your Google My Business listing, getting positive customer reviews, and others.

Backlink Profile Management: This involves tracking and managing your site's backlinks (i.e., when other sites link to yours). Techniques are applied to acquire more high-quality backlinks and eliminate or disavow bad ones, as the quality, number, and relevance of your backlinks can greatly influence your site's search engine ranking.

UX & Technical SEO: On top of creating a site that's easy to navigate, you also need to pay attention to technical aspects like site architecture, proper use of robots.txt, error-free HTML/CSS, correct redirect usage, SSL certification, etc.

SEO for Semantic Search: Semantic search is based on the intent, context, and meaning of phrases. Google tries to understand the semantic meaning of a query and present results that match the intent. Structuring your content to meet these criteria would be beneficial in these cases.

Competitor Analysis: An essential part of SEO is continually monitoring your competition and understanding their strategies. Competitive analysis tools can help uncover the keywords your competitors are ranking for, where they're getting their backlinks from, and what you can do to outrank them.

Link-Building Strategies: High-quality inbound links from respected websites can greatly improve your site's visibility in search results. Common link-building strategies include content creation that others want to link to, guest blogging, and building relationships with influencers and other players in your industry.

Ethical SEO Practices: While "black hat" SEO techniques might yield quick results temporarily, they are likely to harm your rankings in the long run. Using fair, "white hat" SEO techniques ensures your site will remain in good standing with Google and other search engines.

SEO Analytics and Reporting: It's crucial to monitor the success of your SEO efforts by tracking rankings, organic website traffic, and other key performance indicators (KPIs). Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other SEO-specific tools are widely used for tracking and analysis.

SEO is a wide field with many subdisciplines and related areas. It's crucial to keep up with the latest updates and trends in SEO, as search engine algorithms frequently change, and the landscape is highly dynamic. With persistence and dedication, you can master the many facets of SEO.

After Coming SOPA/ PIPA, I noticed that some of Sites and content are removing by the google. Google Crawling process is down. Google had changed all domain of blogger and also removed their Page rank and alexa rank. Many Blogs are not crawling. Due to SOPA/PIPA. If you are posting your link in low quality content/Duplicate content/NUDE or abusing any religious group Conent, You can automatically loose your ranking in google. I just notice these thing by doinng practically just to understand the effect of SOPA/PIPA.

Hey Vinil,

Its looking like an aptitude test for SEO. Very nice questions but its not possible for now to answer all these question. But all are informative questions.

Which of the following is the best way to maximize the frequency with which your site/page is crawled by the search engines?
       a.   Add a short "crawl delay" parameter to your robots.txt file
       b.   Increase your "crawl frequency" in Google's Webmaster Central
      c.   Frequently add new content
       d.   Search for your website more frequently in the major engines
       e.   Submit your site through the search engines' submission forms

@vinil, this is a comprehensive list of SEO techniques and is really useful for those who are new to the SEO world.  The three categories of On-Page, Off-Page and Healthy tips cover off most of the basic principles.  It is very important to remember that when doing SEO for a website that all of these stages are used as you can do all the off site SEO you want but if the site is not optimised then a lot of this work will be in vain!

Also remember that SEO is an ongoing process......not a quick hit.

@Vinil, how are you finding optimising for Google rather than Yahoo! or Bing - it seems that you need to alter your tactics quite significantly between various search engines?

@tianamartin, keyword density is a contentious issue and with the various Google updates (Panda, Venice and Penguin) it is practices such as keyword density within text that seem to be falling out of practice.  It would appear that much like how 'Meta Keywords' is no longer identified by Google as a valid SEO practice (as Vinil rightly pointed out), many SEO's have now switched to stating that keywords within content or text is following the same sort of path, and that there is no % keyword density to follow when optimising on-site.  The majority of SEO's would now advise your content to be relevant, interesting and unique and through this practice you will get traffic.  I personally might use a few keywords in there but only to reinforce what the page is about and make the content more relevant. HOWEVER, try to keep this minimal as it is very easy to overuse keywords and shuffle towards the more devious black hat side of keyword stuffing.

It might be easier to consider that a lot of people have realised how important search engine rankings are for business - compared with maybe early 2000's or '90's.  As such, what might be viewed as 'easy' SEO techniques like Meta Keywords and Keywords within text are used by everybody and therefore are made void as SEO indicators by the ubiquity of users.  If that makes sense?  Just about anybody can write content repeating keywords - although this distracts from readability.  More complex on site / off site optimisation techniques (as long as they are white hat) will give better, more sustainable results.  If you want an article on various SEO techniques, have a look at this:

http://www.goup.co.uk/guides/

It is more of an extension of what Vinil posted and explains the various terms as sometimes these can be confusing.

I also read an extremely interesting forum on the topic of keywords yesterday although I am not sure that it is correct etiuette to post a link to a competing forum within this forum!  Lets just say it is a very popular SEO forum and not hard to find if you want to.....

Hope this helps!

hello all,
You all know what is SEO but still face problems issues, etc .So i thought lets share some points with you ,you all must remember for success of SEO .Correct me if wrong

Thanks VINIL. Great overview on SEO basics.

Have you updated this list for the latest Panda and Penguin updates?

AS this is a beginner guide I say a tip. Off-page optimization shows huge result rather than On-page optimization. On-page is just validating and correcting errors in your web site. But it can't bring up your site before in search engine result. To bring your page front in SERP Off-page optimization have to be done.

Really nice way to represent these things.. Every body knows above mentions facts but still they do mistakes. The only thing we need is to start working in a proper manner then only we can achieve our goal. If you want to stay longer don't use shortcuts and fast forward things coz they will rank you early but their affect would be also ready with that.

SEO is an imperative part of successful online marketing. It is cautiously articulating and encrypting information in a way that will give your company the maximum exposure is the faultless way of advertising your website. SEO is the only way to go if you are looking to improve and promote your web site in order to enhance the number of visitors the site receives from search engines.

Hi,
I am not satisfied with this definition of SEO. Your page will be in search engine but it might be far behind. SEO is  process to improve the rank a webpage in SERP of target search engine and for target set of keywords.

Title: SEO -A beginners Guide and XML Sitemap
Post by: maxqposter on 11-06-2012, 14:01:47
I understand that a sitemap allows google to move through my site based on the link tree and index my pages. But what is the advantage of using. Google will crawl my site effectively with out it right?  I notice you said the following "DO create sitemap -one in xml(for web crawlers) and other in html (for visitors)".

After reading your post I search the net and found a site that allows you to post your URL for your website and it will automatically create the xml sitemap you can upload to google webmaster. This is not my site but I will be posting information and a link to the XML creater at www.webtoolson.com. Great list of SEO tips

Thanks for providing useful Guideline for SEO.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the procedure of moving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine's "natural" or un-paid ("organic") .

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is the process of getting traffic from the "free," "organic," "editorial" or "natural" listings on search e ngine.

SEO is off two types

ON   page
OFF  page
