Hello -- My website is currently under development and I would like to have a great, easy to use blog. I am not tech-savvy so I want to use a WordPress site for the blog. From what I know about SEO, the blog needs to live under my top-level domain in a sub-directory for full SEO benefits. If my website is goliathvs.com, I should have the blog at goliathvs.com/blog or blog.goliathvs.com and not have the blog at goliathvs.us. This seems obvious.

However, my developer says that adding a WordPress site to my top-level domain will present major security vulnerabilities and add too much stress on our server. My question is, how necessary is it for the blog to live under my top-level domain for SEO? Is it pointless to use resources on a blog at goliathvs.us if my actual business is housed at goliathvs.com? Also, is a .us domain a bad idea in general?

I am in college grinding away, trying to start an online business (not actually goliathvs.com) and don't have the money to hire a SEO consultant.  :o  So any help is much, much, much appreciated! Thanks!

Actually it all depends on content and nothing else, so if your content is more important, then it doesn't matter if you are on ".US" or ".blog".

not necessarily, in fact, not likely

If my website is goliathvs.com, I should have the blog at goliathvs.com/blog or blog.goliathvs.com and not have the blog at goliathvs.us. This seems obvious.

he's right, WP is terribly insecure

and add too much stress on our server.

that just means he doesn't want to handle it, most server admins patch WP and just realize some hаck is possible and go with it as it is so stupidly popular

My question is, how necessary is it for the blog to live under my top-level domain for SEO? Is it pointless to use resources on a blog at goliathvs.us if my actual business is housed at goliathvs.com? Also, is a .us domain a bad idea in general?

it is not necessary at all
but if you want xyz.com to get ranking, and blogging is all you are doing... (which is not enough anyways)
regardless blog.xyz.com will not in anyway help xyz.com rank
not to be rude :-) honestly! :-)  but SEO is at least as hard as a 4-8 year degree in marketing analysis
and you are asking questions like "so i hear there is "marketing"? and "analysis""?
you need to hire someone who knows what they are doing
don't assume SEO costs are negligible
no one studies 4-8 years and charges nothing :-)
i've been studying for 20
