Hello Friends,

Using a site map can help getting more pages crawled and indexed by search engines like Google, but it may not alone be considered as a guarantee for top positions online, especially in competitive niches which are targeted by a lot of big portals. You can make use of HTML or XML versions of site maps to ensure your content pages will be easily reached.

Links still seem to be the real power behind the top rankings online and even if websites are containing thousands of content pages and powered by site map files, but they do not have any incoming links, as you can guess their ranks would not be that satisfactory. Site map can be among useful on-age optimization programs to use most of the time.

Thanks and Regards

Think of a sitemap as a list of files that give hints to the search engines on how they can crawl your website. Sitemaps help search engines find and classify content on your site that they may not have found on their own.

I think, that Sitemaps make navigating make your site easier and having an updated sitemap on your site is good both for your users and for search engines. Sitemaps are an important way of communication with search engines. While in robots.txt you tell search engines which parts of your site to exclude from indexing, in your site map you tell search engines where you'd like them to go.

Sitemaps are a protocol that allows the webmaster for a website to inform Google and other major search engines about URLS on a website that are available for crawling. Sitemaps allow search engines to find all of your webpages, that they might otherwise miss when indexing.
