When optimizing your site for SEO, there are several basic essentials you should focus on. Here are eight of them:

1. Keyword research: Identify relevant keywords and phrases that users are searching for to drive organic traffic to your site.

2. Quality content: Create high-quality, well-written content that provides value to your audience and incorporates your target keywords naturally.

3. Meta tags: Optimize your title tags and meta descriptions with relevant keywords to improve click-through rates in search engine results pages.

4. URL structure: Use clean, descriptive URLs that include relevant keywords and make it easy for both search engines and users to understand the page's content.

5. Site speed: Ensure your website loads quickly as slow-loading sites can negatively impact user experience and ranking.

6. Mobile optimization: Optimize your site for mobile devices to cater to the growing number of users accessing the internet via smartphones and tablets.

7. Image optimization: Compress images, add alt tags, and use descriptive filenames to improve search engine visibility and user experience.

8. Internal and external links: Build a network of internal links to improve site navigation and create a logical hierarchy. Additionally, consider acquiring high-quality external links from reputable websites to improve your site's authority.

9. User experience (UX): Focus on providing a positive user experience by making your site easy to navigate, ensuring fast page load times, and creating engaging and accessible content.

10. Site architecture: Organize your website with a logical hierarchy and clear navigational structure, making it easier for search engines to crawl and understand your content.

11. Schema markup: Implement structured data using schema markup to provide search engines with additional context about your content, improving the chances of appearing in rich results, such as featured snippets.

12. Social media integration: Incorporate social sharing buttons on your site to encourage visitors to share your content, increasing its reach and potential for backlinks.

13. Local SEO: If you have a physical location or target a specific geographical area, optimize your site for local search by creating and optimizing Google My Business listings, acquiring local citations, and generating positive reviews.

14. Regularly updated content: Keep your site fresh and relevant by regularly updating and adding new content. This signals to search engines that your site is active and provides value to users.

15. Analytics and tracking: Set up and monitor website analytics to track key metrics, such as organic traffic, conversion rates, and user behavior. This data can help you identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions.

16. On-page optimization: Optimize individual web pages by including target keywords in strategic places like headings, subheadings, and throughout the content. Ensure proper formatting, use descriptive URLs, and optimize meta tags.

17. Off-page optimization: Build a strong backlink profile by acquiring high-quality backlinks from reputable websites. This can be done through guest posting, influencer outreach, or creating shareable and link-worthy content.

18. Social signals: Engage with your audience on social media platforms and encourage social sharing of your content. While social signals may not directly impact rankings, they can contribute to increased visibility and traffic to your site.

19. Mobile-first indexing: With mobile usage on the rise, ensure your website is mobile-friendly and optimized for mobile devices. Google now primarily uses the mobile version of a site for indexing and ranking.

20. User-generated content: Encourage user-generated content such as reviews, comments, and testimonials. This not only helps with engagement but also adds fresh and unique content to your site.

21. SEO-friendly URLs: Create URLs that are short, descriptive, and include relevant keywords. Avoid using unnecessary parameters or symbols that can make them difficult to read or understand.

22. Website security: Implement HTTPS encryption and ensure your site is secure. Search engines prioritize secure sites and may penalize those that lack proper security measures.

23. Voice search optimization: With the rise of voice assistants, optimize your content for voice search queries by using conversational language and answering commonly asked questions.

24. Site map: Create and submit an XML sitemap to search engines to help them discover and crawl your site more efficiently.

25. Local citations: Ensure your business information (name, address, phone number) is consistent and accurate across online directories, review sites, and local listings. This helps improve local search visibility.

26. Site speed optimization: Optimize your website's performance by compressing images, minifying CSS and JavaScript files, and leveraging browser caching. A fast-loading site contributes to better user experience and improved search rankings.

27. SSL certificate: Install an SSL certificate on your website to secure data transmission and improve trustworthiness. Sites with HTTPS encryption are favored by search engines and provide a safer browsing experience for users.

28. Alt tags for images: Use descriptive alt tags for your images to provide context for search engines and improve accessibility. Alt tags also help in image search optimization.

29. Link building: Develop a link building strategy to acquire high-quality backlinks from authoritative websites. This can include outreach efforts, guest posting, creating shareable content, and participating in industry collaborations.

30. Social signals: While not a direct ranking factor, social signals from platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn can indirectly impact SEO by increasing brand visibility, driving traffic, and attracting potential backlinks.

31. Readability and UX: Create content that is easy to read and understand. Break up text with headings, subheadings, bullet points, and paragraphs. Also, optimize for readability on mobile devices, ensuring a positive user experience.

32. Inclusion of multimedia: Incorporate relevant and engaging multimedia elements like images, videos, infographics, and interactive content. This can increase user engagement and time spent on your site.

33. Mobile app indexing: If your website has a corresponding mobile app, implement app indexing to enable search engines to index and display app content in search results.

34. Analyze and adapt: Continuously monitor and analyze your SEO efforts using tools like Google Analytics and Search Console. Use the data to identify what is working well and areas that need improvement.

I agree with the first reply, this question is really weird. But judgement aside I believe none of the above really touches the heart of this subject.

True before you start any campaign you must first assess the market; doing a keyword research, and of course on-page SEO, but how? Meta titles are certainly not helping your website rank on Google anymore. And true relevancy is becoming more and more important with every patch, but how so?

To be honest SEO has waaay more than 8 "essentials". This subject is simply just too broad to cover in one reply. However to make it clear and simple, you want to separate SEO into three steps.

1. Analyze the market for relevant popular topics for your website, using Google Keyword Planner.
2. Optimize your website for the keywords with following techniques. Most important from the top and down:
  a) Domain Name
  b) Website title
  c) Inner URL
  d) Headers H1, H2, H3
  e) Image ALT texts
   f) Image GPS coordinates (for local ranking)
  g) Body text
3. Ask stronger websites (majestic.com trustflow and moz.com domain authority) to link to yours with relevant context. Relevancy is based on the similarity between the pages that are being linked together in accordance to the parameters mentioned above for on-page SEO.
