PageRank is an independent measure of Google's perception of the quality/authority/credibility of an individual web page.  It does not depend on any particular search phrase.  For the public Google conveniently reports this as a number from 0-10.  So, assuming for a second that your web page and your competitor's web page have the same relevance – whoever has the higher PageRank gets the better ranking and shows up at the top of the results page.  This is why PageRank is so important.

Hey Apexes,

Google can't recommend you until it indexes you. Once it has indexed you it calculates your link popularity and summarizes that with a PR rating. The more popular you are the more likely you are to be deep indexed. Then your quality content will come into play. You need PR for your content to matter.

I treat PR as a guarantee of a specific page to stay in the Google index. Over time, the pages are removed from the index, but the page with high PR has a small chance for that. In addition, the PR has long been more a symbol than an indicator of the quality of the current website.

Pagerank can be vital for any website that depends on traffic from Search Engine. You will be ranked higher than another sites if you have a good pagerank.

Hello everybody

PR is a good thing, but it's just one factor that Google considers. It is mostly based on the type of back links you have, so it should increase automatically as you start marketing your website.

Thanks and regards

I have a website that has been up for a few days short of a year now but it has no page rank. Traffic isn't huge or anything, I'm at about 1000 visitors a day. I'm also right where I want to be for most of the search results I'm interested. It's not perfect, but I'm in the top 5 for almost all of the major searches I'm concerned with. So to get to my question, does it matter that I don't have a page rank yet? Is there any reason to be concerned about this or to try and manipulate this at all?
