Bounce rate measures the number of people who came to your site and didn't click on any link.

Bounce rate means defined how much visitors stays on your website and it can be monitored from your Google analytics account. Bounce rate increases when the visitor comes to your site and doesn’t stay in your website and visitor very quickly lefts your website. To avoid this situation you should always put relevant and unique content in your website due to which visitor can stay more time on your website and which in turn decreases the bounce rate.

It represents the percentage of visitors who enter the site and leave the site rather than continue viewing other pages within the same site.

The Bounce Rate is the percentage of bounced visits to your site. A bounce is calculated as a single-page view or single-event trigger in a session or visit.

The following situations qualify as bounces:

A user clicks on a link deep into your site sent by a friend, reads the information on the page, and closes the browser.
A user comes to your home page, looks around for a minute or two, and immediately leaves.
A user comes directly to a reference page on your site from a web search, leaves the page available in the browser while completing other tasks in other browser windows and the session times out.

Usually, high quality websites have lower bounce rates because through providing attractive contents and materials for their audience, admins of those portals are able to encourage viewers to stay longer on the spots and visit their other areas.

The important point about bounce rates is that even achieving top ranks without paying attention to bounce rates can be a mistake because even if a site reaches the top of Google but most visitors leave it, then it needs some adjustments.
