CRO stands for Cathode Ray Oscilloscope. It is a measuring instrument which display, measures and analyze various waveforms of electrical and electronic circuits. It is normally used in laboratories. Generally it is a very fast XY-plotter. It plots the input signal waveform with respect to time or any other signal.
CRO works by using the luminous spot on the screen. This luminous spot is produced by the striking of beam of electrons and this spot moves with the variation of the input signal. CRO consists of Cathode Ray tube (CRT), vertical deflection plate, horizontal deflection plate, aquadog coating and a phosphor screen. The electron beam is produced by the CRT. The construction of CRT can be studied in detail in the books. The CRO generally works with voltage input.
