What is difference between generic keywords and long tail keywords?

Hello,

Let me start with an example in order to make you understand the difference between the different type of keywords.

1. Software Development Company
2. Best software development company is USA

The first example is the example for the Generic keyword and the 2nd one is the Long Tail Keyword.

Generic Keyword:

When we talk about the unspecific words that in no case defines what exactly is our intention for the search are termed as the Generic Keywords.
1. they are unspecific
2. they are costly
3. they are tough if we want conversions from them
4. generally users search about the information from these specific keywords so generally don't give Business to you

Long Tail Keywords
When we use long phrases to define what we want to search exactly are termed as long tail keywords. The audience is less as it does not increase reach for your website.
1. These keywords are having low competition
2. Reach is limited
3. Conversions are limited
4. Cost effective

Hope the difference is a bit clear now.

The only difference between these 2 keywords is competition. Long tail keywords are found with less competition whereas generic keywords has huge competition.

Generic keywords are those which have maximum number of searches in search engines. Ranking these keywords will help you to drive maximum traffic to your website. Long tail keywords usually have less number of searches, and thus they are used to rank websites faster in search engines.

long tail keywords are long by length, having low competition and cost effective. Generic keywords are costly and having tough competition.

Long tail keywords are more suitable for web content in regards to getting traffic. This is because with a long tail keyword, you will have the phrase embedded in your content that people are likely searching by.

Also known as short tail keywords, generic keywords are short and generic. They normally consist of two words – at the most. Short tail keywords may not read as natural as long tail keywords in content. This can make reading difficult.

Generic keywords basically have one to three words in a keyword phrase. In example, the phrase "SEO company" is a short tail keyword. One the other hand, long tail keywords, example "Best SEO company in Ahmedabad," have three or more words.

1.Long tail keyword is the phrase that consist of atleast three word where as generic keyword are the short tail keyword with atmost two word.
2.With long tail keyword your website will get high volume of traffic where as in generic keyword it is very hard to get ranking on search result.
3. Generic keyword may not read as natural  where as long tail keyword is read as natural in the website content.
