From the SEO point of view IP canonicalization is very important for a website. When you are having a website which has some inner pages also and the content on the other inner page is same with another URL on your website then it can be a problem for your website.

The main objective of the IP canonicalization is to redirect the WebPages which are labeled as the duplicate content. For example A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect from a URL to another URL. You can compare it as changing the address in the post office. It is same like that process. By using this redirect you will not get penalize by the search engine.

When a search engine spider indexes a website, it gathers as much information about the website as possible. This may also include the IP address. If you have multiple domain names under one IP address, the search engine could possibly label one the websites as duplicate content.

IP canonicalization is very important for a website. When you are having a website which has some inner pages also and the content on the other inner page is same with another URL on your website then it can be a problem for your website.

For example when you are typing in your address bar a website name without www than it will redirect you on the same website but the working of the search engine is different. According to the search engine it can count as the error in your website. So you can fix this problem with the help of the help of 301,302,307 redirects.

Canonicalization refers to how a website can use different URLs for the same piece of content (usually the entire webpage). The main objective of fixing IP canonicalization is to redirect the webpages that could possibly be labeled as duplicate content or webpages back to the original URL to make sure the IP address does not get indexed.

“Canonicalization is the method of selecting the best url when there are many choices, and it typically refers to home pages. For example, most people would look at these the same urls:

example.com/home.asp
www.example.com
http://example.com/
www.example.com/index.html
example.com/home.asp

If you have multiple domain names under one IP address, the search engine could possibly label one the websites as duplicate content. From an SEO point of view, canonicalization is very important. If you have a website that has the same content spread across different URLs, search engines will split the rankings as well. An example is typing a website without the www in the toolbar.
