Footer Link for Web Designer

Hello,

I have read a bit of do's and dont's about how a web design company should include links on his
client's website to its website but need some advice.

Assuming :
1. the client is OK to have the link of the web design company in his footer (i.e all pages).
2. the web designer get leads by this mean

I've understood that:
To be in inline with Google policy, it's preferable to use nofollow and to avoid anchor text in the
footers. This way, neither the customer nor the web design company get penalized in their SEO
efforts (noting that it will not help PR neither).
