Toxic links, also known as toxic backlinks or bad links, are links that come from low-quality or spammy websites. In SEO, toxic links can be harmful to your website's search engine rankings and overall online reputation.

Search engines like Google consider the quality and relevance of backlinks when determining a website's authority and trustworthiness. Toxic links can negatively impact your SEO efforts because they indicate to search engines that your website is associated with spammy or unethical practices.

Some common characteristics of toxic links include:

1. Links from irrelevant or suspicious websites: If your website receives links from websites that have no relevance to your industry or content, it can raise red flags to search engines.

2. Links from link farms or private blog networks (PBNs): These are networks of websites created solely for the purpose of generating backlinks, often using manipulative tactics. Search engines penalize websites associated with such practices.

3. Paid links: Buying or selling links is against Google's guidelines. Paid links are considered artificial and can harm your website's rankings.

4. Links with over-optimized anchor text: If your website has an excessive number of backlinks with exact-match anchor text, it can be viewed as an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings and may result in penalties.

It's important to regularly monitor your backlink profile and identify any toxic links. You can use tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or Moz to analyze your backlinks and disavow toxic links to protect your website's SEO performance.

Toxic links are backlinks harming the search ranking and Page Rank (PR) of any domain.

The term toxic link is not used by Google. It is fully an SEO chatter class invention and some are using this term to either gain  users to their site and scare the bejeebers out of oyu as well as carve out importace for themselves or sell you something.
As far as Google is concerned, there is no such thing as a toxic link. There are bad links of course, but any link that can actually gain a penalty does not happeb in a vacuum. It is actually hard to do.
