A good Homepage should be visually appealing, The navigation should be proper. Even if a user sees the website on a mobile it should be responsive. In order to improve the homepage presence you need to include the necessary targeted keywords on the homepage in the Meta Title, Meta Descritpion, H! Tags.

Do check whether your site is indexed and searchable by entering your company's name. CHeck out when your home page was last crawled. In case your pages are not indexed then you should make use of ping tools to notify the user of the new changes on your website. This might help in faster crawling and indexing of your website. Enter Best Ping sites of 2017 for faster indexing of your blog.

The home page is often the first page on your website people see and if your home page isn't working well it's the only page people will see because it takes too long for people to find what they're looking for and you'll see a high bounce rate.

I always try to think of the home page as the index of a book.
It just helps them find what they need, and where they should go.
Without having to ask.

The GUI should be self explanatory.
I.e A drunk baby should be able to navigate your site with easy.

A good home page makes visitors want to know more and do something about it. The formula is simple.  Catch people's attention with quality images.  Tell people what you do with a large, punchy heading.  Tell someone why they should choose you.

think of a site you visit often, why? You want your homepage to make people want to return and for a reason. Beyond that it must have the proper structure linking to each page of your site and applicable posts.

As per me, you should focus on the content. Having an attractive appealing homepage is good but the user should find what they are looking for.
Yes, your purpose should be clear as to what your site is offering. You can invest in a good website design as well. However, you do need a good writer for the page. Quality content is like honey. The readers are the bees. They would get attracted to the site if it offers content which is useful.
It is not as expensive to hire a writer! Go to Contentmart and you will find writers at the lowest price. Best of luck! And oh yes, focus on the keywords as well :)

The formula is simple.  Catch people's attention with quality images.  Tell people what you do with a large, punchy heading.  Tell someone why they should choose you.  Tell them what you want them to do next.  A great home page will do all of these things in less than 10 seconds.

Try making some changes and measure for any improvements in Google analytics.  A more effective home page will reduce your bounce rate (people leaving your site after only visiting one page - usually the home page), increase time on your site and increase the number of pages per visit.  Bounce rate, time on site and pages per visit are all statistics Google analytics gives you.  Just keep a track of when you made the change so you can compare these stats from both before and after you made the change.
