Hello,

I run a website called www.everythingforoffices.com. We are working with an SEO company to get it ranked. They've done well so far but we've hit a wall. There are some big national sites ahead of us.

What are some basics I can learn to better understand the process of boosting our ranking?

I would suggest you to look on the backlinks of your competitor who are ahead of you .Check this site webmeup.com .it requires your email id to sign for which you get 3 reports (you can search upto 3 different url's) and also you get 10,000 export rows (if a website has around 3000 backlinks and you download them onto your desktop , it will get deducted from the 10,00 export rows) you can utilize all of it . if u want more backlinks you got to have more email ids. It shows where your competitor is getting backlinks from.It will help your website as well.

also check their meta title and description and compare with yours . check for which keywords are they ranking and try to change them as per the on going search results and rankings. The competitor rank well also because of the authority score and domain age they must have maintained and may be also because they bring in content or product to post on their website. Google likes updated website if not weekly but then monthly

Do competitor research, look at backlinks of their website and submit your website in the same domains and try to find your target audience and make sure to reach your target audience.
