If you like to have a Content Management System for your website - WordPress is a good choice.

If you want to write your own Content Management System (or anything sort of), a Complex custom web application, you would really require PHP.

If you like to extend WordPress with your own custom plugins - you will still require PHP, HTML, and CSS.

If you have a website with less content, and want a fairly simple solution with almost all types of features, You should go for Wordpress.

However, If you have a website with a high amount of content and  planning to expand over a period of time, then you should choose Joomla.

Also, you can check Drupal as an alternative to Joomla.

All of the three options mentioned above have very good support available and also you can find free themes/extensions very easily to start with.

PHP is a programming language (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor), which is used to build WordPress CMS.

PHP is a programming language optimized for creating dynamic websites. You can use PHP , HTML,MYSQL and Apache web server to create a complete website from scratch ,Like Quora .

For developing a website using PHP ,You should have detailed knowledge about programming concepts,Databases,HTML,Webserver configuration etc.

Wordpress on the other hand is a software called as Content Management System (CMS) which can be used to rapidly develop and deploy a website.

For using a CMS package like Wordpress no Programming experience is required.

You can just go to WordPress.com: Create a website or blog and build your own website.

It also comes with great themes and graphics.

There are lots of website platforms available on the internet just like Wordpress, Magento, Joomla. Every platform has their features. If you are making a website for SEO purpose, then we can use Wordpress for better experience.
