Written by Andy Lester, originally released in 2006, and actively maintained, ack is a tool like grep, aimed at programmers with large trees of heterogeneous source code. For many common uses it is simpler than grep.
Ack is written in pure Perl so it will run on a wide variety of divergent hardware.
