Socrata is a company that provides social data discovery services for opening government data. Socrata was founded in February 2007. Socrata targets non-technical internet users who want to view and share government, healthcare, energy, education, or environment data. As of June 23, 2009 there are over 10,000 public datasets.

Socrata is located in Seattle, Washington, USA and received its initial A round of venture capital funding of USD 6.5 million from Morgenthaler Ventures and Frazier Technology Ventures in February 2008.[1]
Socrata launched at the DEMO 2008 conference and was previously known as blist, an online software as a service database provider, before its Socrata name change on June 2, 2009.[2]
