You can use a 301 redirection for broken backlinks. 301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".
Broken link are the dead link which are deleted from the website. This is the reason why some one get the error 404.
For WordPress blogs, there are two types of plugins that can be used to deal with those links:
Plugins that detect broken links in your site like Broken Links Checker.
Plugins that manage 301 redirects automatically like Redirection.
Is this a serious question? What platform are you using? If the link is broken, either find the correct URL and change the address or remove it entirely.
I think you should first try to correct the link and make it work again. In case this solution doesn't work, 301 redirection is the solution you need. But it works the best for e-commerce websites mostly. It is because they have to redirect users to new pages or some other page on their site to keep them.
If these two solutions don't work then you should use Disawov tools as the last solution. It will definitely work for you.

Broken Links refer to the website links, which give 404 error. In other words, links which are deleted from the website but are still interlinked somewhere in your website or those links are already promoted. In such scenario, if you are looking to remove the broken links from the website, you can redirect your broken link to some other relevant page of your website or can directly redirect them to home page.
You have to take few steps as below:
Redirect old URLs to relevant new URL pages where ever possible.
Remove all references of broken links with in your website.
URL which are didn't come under above two options provide 404 error code to Google so that it can be remove your urls after few crawls (keep in mind if any of urls have references then Google will find and post errors again and again)

You can go to Google webpage removal request tool after signing with an gmail account. You will find a button called ''c create a new removal request'', enter the page URL you want to remove, tick mark the checkbox and click submit request button. After some days, your Broken page will be removed permanently.
Or you can add 301 redirection on your 404 page so that users won't leave your site.
