Just wondering how far you would go to buy a domain name that has been taken already.

Just do an appraisal using sites like XnYnZ.com and you can get the market value of the site. You can then contact the owner of the website directly if their details are available in WhoisXY.com which reveals the whois information of any website.

It really depends on the domain I guess, the tld and the name of it.
If I was serious about launching a project or business, and I found a perfect domain probably £200.

I don't know anything about the market for Whitby Jet but I would pay $300 without flinching one bit.

I've paid many times that amount for domains.

Having the proper domain gives me enormous mental energy.  It makes me want to work on the site and make it the best in its niche.  If I bought whitbyjet.com that would make me "The Man" for that product and everybody else in that niche would be in deep trouble.

Mental energy and enthusiasm are valuable weapons and when used properly will defeat powerful foes.

Are you going to be "The Man" in this niche or what?

(paying for domains in a private sale and transferring domains can take a while... I would not be panicking after one week)

I think it will depend on the domain I want and my necessary. If it's premium domains then I'm willing to pay $1000+ to buy. However I sometimes buy domains in my niches and they're around <$200. IMO

Hope this helps.

Buying a new domain name would typically cost you. However, these prices may differ based on the domain extension or the domain registrar you choose. If you are starting a new website, then we recommend using Bluehost. They are one of the top web hosting companies in the world.
