Massive domain lists, worth a punt or just noise?

Hey folks,

Came across a site the other day chucking up endless lists of domains, thousands at a time, and you can stick your own link in or remove stuff if needed. No real data though, like domain authority or backlink profiles, just... a wall of domains.
Got me wondering, has anyone here actually used this sort of thing as part of a link-building strategy? Is there any value in it these days, or is it just the kind of thing Google shrugs at, or worse, frowns on?
Not looking to cut corners, just curious if it's worth even entertaining, or if it's a waste of time. Appreciate any insights.

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

Still thinking about this, just to add another angle, I recently stumbled across gritt.io, which isn't exactly the same thing, but it's a platform where you can explore domain lists and opportunities in a more structured way, Unlike those massive wall-of-domains pages, it gives a bit more context about the sites, which might make it somewhat more useful if someone wanted to experiment without blindly dropping links everywhere.
Has anyone tried something like this alongside traditional link-building, Curious if anyone sees any tangible benefit, or if Google just ignores it entirely,

Cheers,

When they are worth it

They make sense if you're:

Building SEO projects / niche sites
Looking for aged domains with backlinks
Doing brandable domain investing
Hunting exact-match keywords

👉 In these cases, even 1–2 good finds can justify scanning thousands.

🚨 Why most lists are junk

The majority of domains are:

Spam-burned (previous SEO abuse)
Deindexed or penalized
Trademark risks
Worthless strings (random words, hyphens, numbers)
Dead backlinks (no real authority)

👉 That's why beginners often lose money—they treat lists like opportunities instead of raw data.

🔍 How to actually find value (this is the game)
1. Check backlink quality (not just quantity)

Use tools like:

Ahrefs
SEMrush

✔️ Look for:

Real sites linking (news, blogs, orgs)
Natural anchor text
❌ Avoid:
cаsino/pharma anchors
Foreign spam blasts
2. Verify history

Use:

Wayback Machine

✔️ Good signs:

Legit website, consistent niche
❌ Red flags:
PBN, spam pages, language switching
3. Check indexing status

Search:

site:domain.com

✔️ If nothing shows → possible penalty

4. Look for real brandability

Ask:

Is it easy to say/spell?
Could it be a company?

👉 Example:

Good: "GreenNest.com"
Bad: "best-seo-1234-online.net"
5. Prioritize niche relevance

A domain with backlinks from a relevant niche is far more valuable than random authority.
