I wouldn't know about overtaking SEO. As Google tries to compensate for the loss to facebook and other social entities they produce new features such as the "Plus 1" button and other social features which, in time will replace to my belief, the ordinary trust a webpage might get by getting links. As I see it- It will be part of the equation so that SEO and SMO activities wouldn't be so different
