How important is anchor text? I have a number of site mao style search engine helper pages that I would like to work on to increase my PR.
Will adding the headline and abstract of the article in to the anchor text help my page rank, or risk it considering the length og text within the link?
Has anyone ever heard of anchor text in a link being too long for search engines to consider valid?
Thanks in advance!

Anchor Text length has no dependency right now but using a long anchor text will not help you practically. I will give you an example, there are 2 anchor text
1. best SEO Services in USA
2. best SEO Servics USA
and you have 60 domains referring to 1 and 50 referring to 2nd. and suppose second one has more traffic. Than it is better to use the second one everywhere.

This is a very long anchor text and will help you in no way because practically people don't search it this way.
Injecting lengthy headlines and abstracts might overload link attributes, leading to parsing errors or diminished domain authority. Engines typically ignore anchors over 50-70 chars as invalid, code smartly to avoid dilution.
