To use this tool you do need a Google AdWords account. Once you have that set up log into Google Adwords, and this will be your Google AdWords home page. Once you're here, click on the tools and analysis button at the top. Then, click Keyword Planner.

And there's a help section so might as well check it out. Also try to read some contents online for further idea.

To use the Google Keywords Planner tool, you can follow these steps:

1. Sign in to your Google Ads account or create a new one.
2. Go to the Google Ads homepage and click on the "Tools & Settings" icon located at the top right corner of the page.
3. Under the "Planning" category, click on "Keyword Planner."
4. You will be directed to the "Discover New Keywords" section by default. Here you can enter keywords related to your product, service, or idea.
5. Click on "Get Results." The tool will generate a list of keyword suggestions along with relevant data such as search volume, competition level, and historical trends.
6. To get more detailed insights, switch to the "Get search volume and forecasts" section.
7. Enter your selected keywords or upload a file with a list of keywords.
8. Adjust the settings such as location, language, and date range to refine the results.
9. Click on "Get Started" to retrieve data on average monthly searches, competition, and other relevant metrics.
10. Analyze the data and use it to optimize your website's content, select appropriate ad campaigns, or develop effective SEO strategies.

tips on how to effectively use the Google Keywords Planner tool:

1. Understand your audience: Before using the tool, have a clear understanding of your target audience and their search behavior. This will help you generate relevant keyword ideas for your campaign.

2. Use the right filters: The tool provides various filters such as location, language, date range, and search networks. Make sure to set these filters appropriately to target your specific audience and get accurate results.

3. Explore keyword variations: The Keyword Planner suggests not only the keywords you entered but also related keywords that can be valuable. Look for keyword variations and synonyms that may have lower competition but still capture the essence of what your audience is searching for.

4. Analyze search volume and competition: Pay attention to the average monthly search volume and competition level for each keyword. High search volume indicates popularity, while high competition may make it harder to rank or bid for ads. Strike a balance between high-volume keywords and less competitive ones that still align with your goals.

5. Focus on long-tail keywords: Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific phrases that often have lower search volume but higher conversion potential. These keywords can help you target a niche audience and stand out from the competition.

6. Refine and iterate: After generating a list of keyword ideas, review and refine your selection based on relevance, search volume, and competition. Continuously iterate and experiment with different keyword combinations to find the most effective ones for your campaigns.

additional tips to make the most out of the Google Keywords Planner tool:

1. Consider user intent: When selecting keywords, think about the intent behind the search. Are users looking for information, products/services, or making a purchase? Consider targeting keywords that align with the user's intent to increase the chances of driving relevant traffic.

2. Analyze competition: The Keyword Planner provides information on the level of competition for each keyword. This data can help you assess the difficulty of ranking organically or bidding on ads for those keywords. Balance high competition keywords with low competition ones to optimize your overall strategy.

3. Explore seasonal trends: If your business experiences seasonal fluctuations, use the tool to identify keywords that have higher search volume during specific times of the year. This enables you to tailor your campaigns and content to align with these trends and capture timely opportunities.

4. Focus on local targeting: If your business operates in specific locations, make use of the location filtering feature to see keyword suggestions tailored to those regions. This helps you understand the search behavior and preferences of your local audience.

5. Use historical data: The Keyword Planner also offers historical data on keyword performance. Analyze trends over time to understand the seasonality, changes in search volume, and evolving user preferences. This information can guide your long-term keyword strategy.

6. Group keywords effectively: Once you have selected relevant keywords, organize them into logical groups or themes. This makes it easier to create targeted ad campaigns, develop tailored landing pages, and improve overall campaign performance.

The tool will show you three options. For the sake of doing keyword research we want to click on the top one where it says search for keyword and ad group ideas. You have a number of options here. The first box is where you enter keywords related to your product or service. So, if you're selling pianos, you'd put maybe pianos, musical instruments, and things like that to generate the most amount of keyword ideas. Or, you could put your landing page which could be your home page or a page you'd want people to land on in search when they search for that keyword.

What is Google Keyword Planner tool:

Google Keyword tool is an official product from Google, which gives us a traffic estimation of our target Keywords and also help in finding more relevant and related Keywords for your niche. Few Important things to know:

You need to have a Google Adwords account to use Google Keyword Planner tool. It's free, and you don't need to spend any money to use this tool. You can simply create an Adwords tool and start using it.
You can also search for existing Google Adwords coupons to create one free account for yourself, and start using Keyword Planner tool.
This tool is created to target Adwords advertisers, but it still gives a great deal of information when it comes to finding the right keyword for your blog and articles.
This is what the homepage of Keyword Planner tool looks like. All you need to do is enter your target Keyword that you want to start searching for. After that, you can add filters such as for which country you want to target your keywords (In below example, All location is selected).

Using Keyword planner tool

1) Enter your product or services:

This is the place where you will put your target Keywords. For example, my next post in on Keyword research, and I'm not sure what keyword I should be targeting that post for, I will do some searches based on my knowledge like you see in the example, and it shows me results globally and local search.  The idea here is to find a Keyword that has good traffic but low competition. If you are working on a blog for the long-term goal, you can also target high competition Keyword, using resource pages. For ex: WordPress guide. It makes take time before you see your keyword ranking at the good position. Below image illustrates the difference between Broad search, Exact search and phrase search.

Broad Match Traffic

2) Search type:

This is one important column that you should be taking care of. There are three options for search type:

Broad
Exact
Phrase
Exact Match: Exact searches, shows the traffic for exact match Keyword. For example, if you search for WordPress SEO in exact match, it will be different from broad search in a great way. My suggestion, prefer Exact search when you are doing research for your micro-niche site and broad search when you are writing on the personal blog. Ex: Keyword Research Broad Match: Broad Match is my favorite, as it let me target long-tail keyword, and your traffic is not limited to exact match words. For Bloggers, broad match is useful, but that again depends on your blog type and target. Ex: "Keyword-based research" Phrase: Phrase type is useful when you need Keyword in an exact phrase. For example: "Best Keyword Research". Keyword position won't be changing, but it gives the data for traffic, that your Keyword might be getting for phrase search.

Google doesn't  know you or hate you! If you are writing & not ranking on the first page of search engine, that means you are doing something wrong.

Take 10 second break & ask yourself:

How does search engine rank a web-page?  Is in't it few lines or codes which automatically decide which page should be on the first page of search engine.

Well, search engine looks for signals to rank a page & it's easy for you & me to tweak our article & give all those signals to search engine & enjoy all the traffic.

In order to get to that point, you need to start from here & let's begin:

Keyword research is one topic, which every blogger should learn from day one. Probably, every Blogging or SEO blog you have read till now, I'm sure Google Keyword Planner (previously Keyword Tool) and "Keyword research" are not a new term for you.  But if not, you are missing out the basic of any Blog SEO.

While it offers solid insight into keyword demand and CPC trends, it's not without flaws. The tool's skewed data towards high-volume, commercial keywords can overshadow emerging or micro-niches where domain value often lies.
Also, it's frustrating how Google limits detailed data unless you run active campaigns, which can be a bottleneck for domain investors testing waters without upfront ad spend. In essence, it's a useful starting point but far from the crystal ball some claim it to be.
