I've been forum hopping and I've come across a lot of people trying to signup for forums just to try getting signature backlinks. I just wanted to put my view of signature links out there for those people.
Signature links have a very, very small affect on rankings. The amount of value in a signature link isn't worth the effort of going on to a forum with intentions of just getting a backlink out of it. I would rather have 1 good backlink from a non-forum site than 100 signature links, but people do occasionally click on signatures, which turns those signatures into a traffic source.
Hey though I am agree with you, but if we regularly go for the submissions in the forum then the signature back links will provide great help. All the reply we post in the forum is count as the individual link so if I have two link in my signature and post 5 reply then I will get 10 back links. 8) Isn't that great?
Signature links are own promotional links and are easy to get. They are not the sorts of links that are editorially given, so are likely to be valued low, if at all, by search engines anyway.
Some people use forum signature to get traffic instead of link juice

the same could be said for blog commenting and article distribution. however a lot of people will argue that these are good ways to create back links to your site, from relevant high PR sites which in turn can help increase your website PR. this advice is always given to newbies, so who do you believe?
Forum marketing offer's the same environment that social sites offer and what the consumers are now demanding; more personal and interactive relationship with the businesses they deal with. Like social networks, forums gives voice to the consumer.
Signature links really help you with the link juice. Don't think that by their means you will get direct traffic because you'll end up disappointed!
See if you can get a guest posting on another blog or podcast to create interest and desire for joining your lively and informative forum!
That strategy I think is very common :) I think all SEOs here did that already :) Tell me if I'm wrong.
is agood technique
In my opinion, forums are communities where you share your ideas, thought, help each other out and many other things.
If you are contributing in a good way, you can build up a good reputation. If you have a good reputation, only then your backlinks can give you fruitful results.
I, personally, would never click on signatures appearing beneath spammy or useless posts.
I don't think so. Every SEO technique is very helpful in gaining PR.
signature link will help you to provide a back links for the site.
Signature links may have little effect in rankings but it definitely brings lots of traffic to your websites. Which is also a positive effect in link building! :D
Signature links are a great way to get more traffic to your website or webpage. You can put links in your forum signatures to that everybody on the forum who reads your posts can see the link. Some will click on it!
Forum posting is a method in which we can drop our website link as a signature link.signature link work as a back link for you.
I have seen people skipping reputed forums because they do not give instant back link from the signature section. This is a sickening mentality. Participating in forum is about helping others and not just getting a link back from them. So, if you wish you can add a link back to your website with Branded Keyword, avoid exact matched anchor texts like plague and you will be just fine.
Through the forum Postings that builds its reputation on the Internet. And another befit is that you can put your company information in the Signature field as an anchor text links, in each of your post or answer any questions that you automatically get an inbound link to their websites. And it is also a additional way to share knowledge on line.
Insert a signature manually. In a new message, on the Message tab, in the Include group, click Signature, and then click the signature that you want. Tip: To remove a signature from an open message, select the signature in the message body, and then press DELETE.
the irony is that this is my 20th post. Thus my links will be activated.Having said this... I disagree with you. A backlink is not just for link juice. It also serves as a citation. A mention. The more you have the better (from decent sites of course)

I did,
But I genuinely give back by providing value to the forums I place my links on.
You're wasting your time signing up for forums just to get a signature link? That's like trying to boost your rankings with spammy tactics. One good backlink from a relevant site is worth more than 100 signature links.
Using links in your email signature boosts visibility, drives traffic, and enhances professional networking. Include your website, social profiles, or portfolio to make every email a marketing opportunity effectively.
