Post by: linavi390 on 09-21-2011, 00:28:50
Can anybody explain what reverse SEO means in some simple words?
I'm looking to learn a few reverse SEO techniques, but cannot find any clearly clarified approaches through Google.
Waiting for answers.
Thanks in advance!

Well, reverse seo is the practice that we do against SEO.

Reverse SEO is the process of de-ranking your competitors websites from the first pages of Google search results for a particular keyword and create negative impressions about your competitors to both search engines and visitors.

How to do Reverse SEO ?
1, Breaking google webmasters guidelines for creating backlinks and seo by creating backlinks from bad neighborhoods, link farms etc with prohibited keywords.
2, Creating fake negative reviews about your competitors in many forums, press release websites, complaint websites

Reverse SEO, in simple terms, is a technique used in online reputation management to suppress or decrease the visibility of negative search results on search engine result pages (SERPs). The negativity can stem from bad reviews, negative blog posts, harmful news articles, or anything that paints a negative image of a person or a business in the digital space.

Reverse SEO works in a bit of 'reverse' way compared to normal SEO practices. While SEO is used to boost websites' visibility in search engine results, reverse SEO seeks to minimize the visibility of particular content.

Here are a few techniques often used in reverse SEO:

Creating High-Quality, Positive Content: By creating and sharing high-quality, positive content across various platforms, you can push down negative content in search engine rankings.

Link Building: Develop quality backlinks on authoritative websites for your positive web content. Link building increases the credibility and authority of your websites, allowing them to move higher in search rankings.

Positive Reviews: Encourage customers to leave positive reviews on various review platforms (Google, Yelp, etc.). Positive reviews can help outrank negative feedback.

Using Social Media: Create and optimize social media profiles on all major networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). Activity on these profiles helps to rank these pages better in search engine results.

Optimize Your Existing Content: If you have great content that is already ranking, optimizing it further can help boost its position and suppress any negative results.

Legal Means: In some cases, where the negative content is false, defamatory and harming your reputation, you can request search engines to remove this content, or even take legal actions against the source.

Press Releases: One powerful method to combat negative publicity is by releasing optimised positive press releases. Make sure these press releases use SEO techniques and distribute them widely. Engaging with highly-ranked press release websites will help push down the negative content as these websites hold substantial authority in search engine algorithms.

Blogs and Articles: Creating your own blogs and writing guest posts on significant websites is another way. Start publishing frequently, and over time this can help push negative content down in search results. Remember, your content must be meaningful, engaging, and SEO optimised.

Enhance Online Presence Via Different Media: Publish a diverse range of content to engage users. This can include videos (with Video SEO), infographics, podcasts, etc. Sites like YouTube are considered high-authority pages, so having positive videos about your product or service can certainly help push negative content down.

Negative SEO: Negative SEO isn't a highly recommended practice, but it's used by some to lower the rank of negative publicity. This involves creating "non-quality" backlinks to the negative content pages, but it's generally seen as unethical and could backfire if poorly executed or if it goes against Google's algorithmic preferences.

Proactive SEO: Regularly monitoring your brand name, and popular industry keywords can also be beneficial, as it helps you be proactive should anything negative come up. Use tools like Google Alerts for this.

Use Search Engine's Own Tools: Google's own tools, like Google's Disavow Links Tool, can be very useful in rejecting the impact of links that lead to negative content.

Website Reputation Management: Analyse your own website regularly. Identify any vulnerability that could potentially harm your online reputation. This could include broken links, slow load times, or anything else that could adversely affect user experience.

Optimized Business Profiles: Create and properly maintain profiles on a variety of business directories like Google My Business, Bing Places, Yelp, Better Business Bureau, and industry-specific directories. These platforms typically get good visibility in search results.

Forum Participation: Participate in discussions on popular forums related to your industry. Be present, helpful, and courteous, to create a positive image among forum users. These forum threads often rank high in search engine results pages.

Question & Answer websites: Platforms like Quora rank quite high on search engine results. Thus, answering queries and discussing topics related to your brand on these platforms can be another method of reputation management. Be sure to provide valuable and thorough information, as posts that receive upvotes can quickly rise in rankings.

Content Diversification: Diversify your content portfolio as much as possible. Create a mix of content like blog posts, white papers, webinars, podcasts, infographics, and videos. This increases your chances of owning several results on the first page of SERPs.

Local SEO: Optimize your website for local searches. This is especially important for businesses with physical locations. Building local citations, managing local business listings, and gathering positive local reviews can suppress negative content.

Online Partnerships: Collaborating with well-established brands in your industry can be helpful. Guest posting, co-hosting webinars, or even mutual shout-outs can boost your online reputation and indirectly suppress negative results.

Building a Positive Social Presence: Today, search engines take social signals into account, so having active profiles on major social networks can help with your digital reputation management. Social media posts can also appear in search results, helping push down negative content. Make sure you are active on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and any other platforms that are relevant to your market.

Wikipedia Page: If your organization is notable enough to meet Wikipedia's guidelines, having a Wikipedia page can also be helpful. Pages from Wikipedia often rank quite well in search engine results, and therefore, having a well-managed Wikipedia entry gives you control over another slot in the searches.

Positive PR Campaigns: Work on driving positive publicity campaigns. Whether it's community work, a charity drive, or consumer outreach, getting positive news stories published can effectively counteract negative coverage.

Proactive Engagement: Respond promptly and courteously to any criticisms you find online. This includes on review platforms, social networks, forums, or anywhere else you find them. Sometimes, a response that shows your business cares about its customers' experiences and is willing to rectify mistakes can quickly turn a negative situation into a positive one.

Microsite Creation: Develop thematic microsites centered around different aspects of your organization or products. These sites, if optimized well, can obtain good rankings.

Influence SERP Suggestion Algorithm: Search engines often autofill search suggestions based on commonly searched terms associated with the business name. Monitor and manage these suggestions effectively and legally.

An important aspect to consider in reverse SEO is regular monitoring. Keep an eye on your brand mentions and swift action when damaging information crops up is key. Utilize ORM tools for frequent automated reviews.

Lastly, it's crucial to understand that reverse SEO can take a lot of time and effort, as building a credible online presence is not an overnight process. Treating customers fairly, providing excellent service, and encouraging satisfied customers to post reviews and testimonials can be a great way to naturally improve your online reputation over time.

Reverse SEO is the process of removing (technically de-ranking) websites other than your own from the first pages of Google.

Reverse SEO has become one of the most effective strategies for minimizing the impact of bad publicity within the search engines' organic listings. It is an online reputation management (ORM) tool of SEO consultants who manage Online Reputation Management. Too often, companies become targets for negative press online.

And after getting the results you are able to predict which areas or other things to concentrate for getting better results. This is reverse SEO.

Sometimes people often get bad reputation pages regarding their sites on the first page of google. For example an article with a bad review about their product. So  reverse seo is the process of  deranking bad reputation pages and getting your pages on the front .this is often done by getting your pages in all the ranks in front page of google so it is like 10 times harder than general SEO and those websites may not even belong to you which you wanna rank/derank

Reverse SEO is a sneaky tactic used to deflect attention away from your online presence. It's like creating a "digital decoy" that distracts search engines and users from your real online identity.
Think of it as a "digital shield" that protects your online reputation by making it harder to find or associate with your brand. I'd say it's like setting up a "digital firewall" that blocks unwanted attention and scrutiny.

SEO stands for search engine optimization, which is all about getting your site to rank higher on the results page of search engines. So reverse SEO is exactly the opposite, it's about pushing down the search results of another website, in this case, the one responsible for your negative review.
