Desktop --> PSP

Hey guys,
Got some problems with transferring this one file to my PSP device.
It's a movie file.
I've transferred it but I can't play it on my PSP.
Should I convert it?
What type of files that can be played on the PSP device?
Got any suggestion on the converter to use?
Any good one?
Really appreciate a good converter so that it wouldn't downgrade the movie quality.
