On page is not a ranking factor, but if you optimize your site with proper keywords through the tags then you can get good results from properly optimizing the site factors.
As my opinion Onpage optimization is primary work for website promotion. It will helps to increase website rankings in search results.
Onpage includes the following things
1. Keyword analysis
2. Keyword Placements in site
3. meta tags and meta desc placements
4. making Site SEO friendly
5. site map creation
6. robots.txt creation
7. title tag placements
8. url re-written (in wordpress i guess)
9. changing dynamic link to static
10.Images modification and alt tags placements
11.and many more..
Ranking of a website doesn't depend on any one factor. Generally you should have to optimize a website by its On page i.e proper keywords, meta tags, proper anchor texts, ALT tag for images optimization, Google analytics implementation and Google webmaster tools.

Consider purchasing domain name for long duration like 5 or 10 years. It makes your website reliable for search engine.
