Its a huge drop in ranking. If this happen with your keywords then you need to analysis the traffic and ranking. Also check you webmaster account, is there any message of penalty or not. This type of drop in ranking could be a reason of penalty on website. Your site can be penalized due to serveral reasons in which duplicate content & low quality backlinks are most common.

I don't think so.
You either messed up some onsite SEO, you changed some off site seo, some websites that were giving you backlinks disappeared, or got penalized, or you got penalized by google. Sorry man. That really sucks!

It may be a sign of concern when your rankings start to slowly fall behind other sites, even though you're seriously trying your best to create content and building links.

Top Reasons Your SEO Rankings Decrease

Low quality links: Links are the lifeblood of organic search. But the quality of those links can boost or kill a site's rankings.

Losing good links: A drop in rankings might be due to losing high quality links.Your site may have good links, but those redirected may pass a penalty.

Incorrect robots.txt file:One mistake here can and will cause you a lot of harm, so after you've completed the robots.txt file take extra care in checking for any mistake in it.

Source Of Traffic: If your organic traffic suddenly declines, there are some SEO issues that you're dealing with.

Panda Or Penguin Update : Panda examines content quality and Penguin analyzes link quality. One or both of these updates may explain a decrease in traffic.

If Google updates the results pages of its search engine, trackers often have to update their apps. This can influence their users ' rankings. Check out your Twitter account if you don't find anything at your ranking tracker web site. You may have tweeted or sent tweets about it.

Ranking drops are often caused by large changes to a website. When you've migrated a bunch of pages, rolled out a (responsive) redesign or reworked a lot of content you'll see big fluctuations in your rankings. This is natural, and should only worry you in ase your rankings don't come back to their previous state.

Fluctuations in rankings would be normal as Google ranks the most updated websites and decrease some low performed sites within the search results. Updаting your website's content pages according to your customers journey would be the best way to improve your site's rankings.

Manual penalty from Google.
Google algorithm updates.
Competitors' moves in Google.
SERP changes and shifting intent.
Recent website changes.
Lost backlinks.
User behavior changes.
Lack of optimization for mobile devices.

Rankings aren't a savings account, they're quicksand. 40 to 200 means your SEO "strategy" was probably one lucky backlink carrying dead weight. No moat, no content depth, no mercy from the algorithm.

The first thing I always do when rankings drop is narrow down what changed, because guessing wastes weeks. Check these in order:

1. Search Console first. Look at the performance tab for when the drop started, which queries and pages lost clicks, and whether impressions dropped too or just clicks. That tells you if it is a ranking loss or a CTR problem. Check the manual actions and security tabs while you are there.

2. Rule out an algorithm update. If the drop lines up with a confirmed Google update, the fix is usually content quality, not technical.

3. Look at what changed on your end around the same time. Site migrations, redesigns, HTTPS changes, robots.txt edits, accidentally noindexed pages. I have seen more ranking drops caused by someone's own deploy than by Google.

4. Check the SERP itself. Sometimes you did not get worse, the intent shifted or a new feature pushed the organic results down.

5. Then competitors. If one competitor jumped over you, compare their page against yours honestly.

Only after all that would I start changing things. Fixing the wrong cause is how a small drop turns into a big one.
