Hello. I'm trying to do some SEO for an acquaintance. While I know a bit about the subject, I've never really done it on my own. I'll tell you what I've done so far, and please let me know what mistakes I'm making, and what steps I might need to take next.
I did some basic keyword research on Google's keyword tool. I kept to keywords that received more than 1000 global monthly searches and that were relevant to her site (she sells audio recordings of educational books). With this done, I wrote meta tags and descriptions using these keywords. Each meta tag section is about 250 characters long. The descriptions are around 150.
She said that this initially netted some improvement in traffic, but I don't think she actually got many conversions. I did this about a month and a half ago, so I'm not sure how long it should even take.

Did you do any marketing? I mean promotion of the shop on different Internet resouses (social networks, forums, blog etc.).
I think only marketing techniques impact to traffic.
You can use GoogleAds, banner advertising on visited resources, where probably target audience exists. Also Social networks are very important marketing tool.
I think you could read some seo basic book at first, and put into practicel at the same time continue learning.

SEO is mostly about time and patience. Created backlinks will take time to be indexed and boost the website's visibility.
First of all, do work on low-competitive keywords which will increase traffic to your website then focus on middle and high-competitive keywords it will work.
