Hello friends

Today, I have seen a blog using very very long URL (Permalink) and ranking higher in the search engine.

I am confused, till date, What I have learned was short and readable URL structure is good for any blog but in this case the scene is something different.

The guy is using extremely long url. In fact, he is using one entire sentence in the blogpost url.

Would be grateful, if anyone throw some lights on this and provide some insights on this. Which one is more better? A very long url, which includes complete one sentence or simple and short url.

If long URL is not good then Why that particular blog is ranking higher in the search engine?

Obviously, short url is good for any blog but sometimes blog page urls get bigger and longer. But long url is not a negative factor for SEO ranking if your blog article is unique, original  and very interesting. If your blog article url is so long, then search engine won't show the whole url, rather will delete some part of it. At the very least, it will help you remember where products or content are on your website, and will undoubtedly make every other tip in this post easier to implement. Tip #2: Use a keyword rich URL. Once you've figured out the URL structure for your permalinks, you need to start considering how you're going to incorporate keywords in your URLs to boost your SEO.

The ranking of a blog in search engines is determined by numerous factors, and URL length is just one small aspect. While it is generally recommended to have shorter and more readable URLs, there are cases where longer URLs can still rank well. Search engines consider various factors such as content quality, relevancy, backlinks, user experience, and many others when determining rankings.

In the specific case you mentioned, there may be other reasons why the blog is ranking higher despite its long URL. It is possible that the content itself is highly valuable, relevant, and well-optimized for search engines. Other factors like user engagement, social signals, domain authority, and overall website structure can also influence rankings.

It's important to note that a single aspect, such as URL length, does not solely determine a page's ranking. It is usually a combination of several factors that contribute to the overall visibility of a blog in search engines.

Even if the URL is very long, that is not the only factor which helps to rank higher. If other on-page points are optimized very well, the website can still rank on top.

See, it depends on the keyword. When we create permalink URL for blog or any webpage we generally look first at the keyword because it helps more to get rank well on search engine. So, we can use both type of permalink.

Permalinks are the permanent URLs to your personal pages and blog posts, as well as your level and tag archives. A permalink is the web home used to link to your content. The URL to each post should be strong and never change — hence the name permalink.

Read the above answers which are really helpful but didn't see the reply on any of the answer. So it clearly shows that you are here just for Backlinks.

I think you are right John!
OP is here just for backlinks and the thread is just posted for the same.  ::) >:(

it is preferable to use keywords in your URL structure, but make sure it makes sense
stay away from complex parameters
use-hyphens-to-separate-words
underscores_are_technically_ok but can be hard to read
