What is more important : Content or Backlinks

I want to build pr8 content but don't want to waste time in back linking Will it be sufficient to just write pr8 Posts and leave rest to search engine

Content and backlink both are important.
The number of backlinks a website has is a good indicator of its popularity or importance with search engines. It is easy to get a higher ranking using backlinks than it is to influence search engines with external backlinks from other sites, which is why backlinks matter so much in a search engines algorithm.

And also google gives so much importance to Unique content so always focus on both of them.

As you said, without content backlinks are useless. so let me ask you that without backlink content can be useful?

Both. You can have top tier content on several pages, but backlinks are needed to promote and endorse them. It's like always talking about your favorite sushi restaurant, but never tell anyone about it's adress. How people will know if they are really that good ?
