Answering questions on Facebook about my brand at a time when trolls were posting lies about what we represented.

Instead of deleting and banning the trolls, we used that as an opportunity to sell, and other users came to our defense and a sudden surge of subscribers to was recorded on our business platform and social media.

Before the advent of the internet, at a crucial turning point in the history of our almost 20yr old business, I had a route between all the different public notice boards I identified or started, where I pasted notices advertising my business, until I realised it is much more profitable to paste them up next to bank ATM’s.

People hated me for it, but it worked. It worked well. And it pulled us through.

Today an equivalent would be spam in your mailbox. But it is only spam until you need what is advertised, then it is ok.

Unconventional marketing strategies include the Old Spice "Man Your Man Could Smell Like" campaign, Airbnb's "Night At" sleepovers in unique locations, and Red Bull's Stratos space jump sponsorship. These tactics sparked immense brand engagement and buzz.
