Title: Are freelinks useful?
Post by: prasanth5 on 05-29-2010, 05:41:43
Free links are those which we get by free advertising or by participating in free advertising or classifieds sites.  The question is are they really useful and effective?

It depends on the traffic that particular free classifieds website receives.  There are a few free classifieds websites that receive enormous traffic like ablewise and usfreeads.com

Almost all are useless.
But links from DMOZ are very important.

Every link you generate for your website is useful, if it is on a popular site then it can generate traffic and if it is on a less popular site but "do-follow" link then it is helpful in backward link.

Can you explain what is 'do-follow' link?  I am hearing a lot about the term these days.

As long as they deliver genuine traffic to your website they are indeed useful.  In fact USfreeads is a website that has a long run so far and that delivers wonderful traffic.

dofollow is a tag you used to tell the search engine spiders to crawl the link.
nofollow is a tag you used to tell the search engine spiders NOT to crawl the link.

To have nofollow link, for example you are using this html code to link to seomastering.com

<a href="http://www.seomastering.com" rel="nofollow">seomastering.com</a>

To have dofollow link, erase the rel="nofollow"

I haven't seen any link that's not useful. Most will give you traffic at some point in there life and some will pass on link juice. It's just a fine balance really. Get free links early on, then as your site matures, you'll get better ones and won't need the free links as much.

Overall free links play a better in the early stages of your SEO :) Hope that helps.
