While Google Keyword Planner shows absolute search volume data, Google Trends shows the relative popularity of a search query. Here's the explanation from Google Trends Help Center: Trends adjusts search data to make comparisons between terms easier.

They look quite similar, but they're not identical. While Google Keyword Planner shows absolute search volume data, Google Trends shows the relative popularity of a search query.

Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner serve distinct purposes in the realm of digital marketing. Google Trends offers insights into the popularity and search interest of specific keywords over a period of time, highlighting trends and seasonality. It helps marketers understand how the popularity of certain search terms changes, providing valuable context for content creation and campaign planning. On the other hand, Google Keyword Planner focuses on generating keyword ideas and providing data on search volume, competition, and cost-per-click estimates. It is primarily used for building and refining keyword lists for search engine advertising campaigns. While Google Trends offers a broader view of search trends, Google Keyword Planner offers more specific keyword data tailored for advertising and SEO strategies. Both tools are valuable for different stages of the marketing process: Trends for understanding broader search patterns, and Keyword Planner for refining keyword strategies.

Google Trends:

Trending Topics: Shows what topics are currently popular or trending on Google.

Interest Over Time: Visualizes how search interest in a topic has changed over time.

Related Queries: Provides related search queries and topics.

Real-Time Data: Offers real-time data on search trends.

Broad Insights: Helps you understand what's popular but doesn't provide specific keyword suggestions.

Google Keyword Planner:

Keyword Suggestions: Offers keyword ideas based on your input.

Search Volume: Provides data on how often specific keywords are searched.

Competition and CPC: Indicates keyword competition and cost-per-click estimates.

Keyword Trends: Offers historical data on keyword trends.

Campaign Planning: Primarily used for planning Google Ads campaigns by finding relevant keywords.

In short, Google Trends shows what's currently hot, while Google Keyword Planner helps find specific keywords for advertising or SEO campaigns.
