Here are a few suggestions:

1. Use a combination of automated and manual checking: It's always good to have a balanced approach. While Ahrefs and other tools provide reliable and comprehensive data, manually checking rankings can help you gain a better understanding of the search landscape.

2. Compare different sources: To get a more accurate picture, consider cross-referencing multiple tools and sources. This can help you identify any discrepancies and provide a clearer view of your rankings.

3. Focus on conversion metrics: Apart from rankings, it's important to track metrics that directly impact your business, such as organic traffic, click-through rates, and conversions. These metrics give you a better idea of how your website is performing in terms of actually driving results.

4. Consider personalized search results: Keep in mind that rankings can vary depending on various factors, including search location, device, and personalization. With manual checking, you can simulate different scenarios and analyze how your website performs in each case.

5. Monitor your competitors: Along with checking your own rankings, it's important to keep an eye on how your competitors are performing in search results. This can provide valuable insights into their strategies and help you identify areas for improvement.

6. Track long-tail keywords: Instead of solely focusing on generic keywords, consider tracking long-tail keywords as well. These are more specific and often have lower competition, making it easier to achieve higher rankings. Manual checking can help you identify opportunities in this area.

7. Analyze user intent: Understanding the intent behind a particular keyword search can help you optimize your content to better meet the needs of users. Manual checking allows you to evaluate the relevance of your website's ranking for specific search queries and make necessary adjustments.

8. Leverage other SEO tools: Besides Ahrefs, there are several other SEO tools available that offer different features and insights. Experimenting with different tools and techniques can help you gain a more comprehensive understanding of your website's performance in search rankings.

9. Stay up-to-date with algorithm changes: Search engine algorithms are constantly evolving, which means your rankings can fluctuate. By staying informed about updates and changes, you can adjust your SEO strategy accordingly and maintain or improve your rankings.

Semrush has been leading the charge on rank checking tools ever since its inception. It allows users to evaluate both the competitor as well as their content. It gives its users the best-performing pages, content, and keywords by using robust metrics.

Rankings in Google tools are accurate and effective, but I think checking the rankings manually in search results provides more accurate information about the position of keywords. I mostly check the position of the keywords myself. I check words twice a month using tools like ahref tool.
