VPS is referred to Virtual Private Server. As the name suggest, you will be having a private server solely for your website. This is usually taken up by huge organizations(who can bare the sole cost of the private server).

Shared server refers to a web hosting service where many websites reside on one web server connected to the Internet. Many small firms take up this option in order to share their space as well as cost.

Hope this helps.

VPS hosting, also known as Virtual Private Server hosting, is a type of web hosting where a physical server is divided into multiple virtual servers. Each virtual server operates independently, with its own dedicated resources such as CPU, RAM, and storage. VPS hosting offers more control and flexibility compared to shared hosting, as users have root access and can install their own operating system and software on the virtual server.

On the other hand, shared hosting involves hosting multiple websites on a single physical server. All the resources of the server, such as CPU, RAM, and disk space, are shared among the websites hosted on it. Shared hosting is usually the most affordable option for hosting a website, but it may lack the scalability and customization options of VPS hosting.

VPS Hosting:
1. Performance: VPS hosting offers better performance compared to shared hosting. Since each virtual server has its own dedicated resources, it can handle higher traffic volumes and process requests faster.
2. Scalability: VPS hosting allows for easier scalability than shared hosting. You have the option to upgrade or downgrade your resources based on the needs of your website.
3. Control and Customization: With VPS hosting, you have full root access to your virtual server. This gives you complete control over the server environment and the ability to customize it according to your specific requirements.
4. Security: As each virtual server is isolated from others on the same physical server, VPS hosting offers improved security. If one website on the server is compromised, it won't affect the others.
5. Cost: VPS hosting is more expensive than shared hosting, as you are paying for dedicated resources and increased performance.

Shared Hosting:
1. Affordability: Shared hosting is usually the most cost-effective option for hosting a website. Since the resources are shared among multiple users, the cost is distributed, making it cheaper for individual users.
2. Ease of Use: Shared hosting is typically easier to set up and manage, as the hosting provider takes care of server maintenance and administration tasks.
3. Limited Resources: With shared hosting, you will have limited resources at your disposal. The performance of your website may be affected if other websites on the same server experience high traffic or resource usage.
4. Less Control: Shared hosting offers limited control compared to VPS hosting. You may not have access to certain server configurations or the ability to install custom software.
5. Security Concerns: As multiple websites are hosted on the same server, if one website is compromised, it may affect the security of other websites. Therefore, shared hosting may have slightly lower security compared to VPS hosting.

Traffic Handling:
VPS hosting is better suited for websites with high traffic or those that require more processing power. Since you have dedicated resources with VPS hosting, your website can handle increased traffic without performance degradation. Shared hosting, on the other hand, may struggle to handle large traffic spikes as resources are shared among multiple websites.

Scalability:
If you anticipate your website to grow in the future and require more resources, VPS hosting provides better scalability. You can easily upgrade your virtual server's resources as your website's needs increase. With shared hosting, you may face limitations in terms of scalability, as you are dependent on the resources allocated to your website by the hosting provider.

Technical Knowledge:
VPS hosting requires a higher level of technical knowledge to set up and manage compared to shared hosting. As a VPS user, you will have more control over server configurations and software installations, which means you need to be comfortable handling server administration tasks. Shared hosting, on the other hand, is generally more user-friendly and does not require advanced technical skills.

Isolation:
With VPS hosting, each virtual server is isolated from others on the same physical server. This means that the performance and security of your website are not affected by other websites hosted on the same server. In shared hosting, however, the actions of other websites on the same server can impact your website's performance and security.

Reliability:
In terms of reliability, VPS hosting tends to be more reliable due to its dedicated resources and isolation. Shared hosting can sometimes experience performance issues if other websites hog resources or if any specific website experiences a surge in traffic.

Server Management:
With VPS hosting, you have more responsibility for server management. You have root access and can configure the server settings, install software, and handle updates and security patches. Shared hosting, on the other hand, is managed by the hosting provider, taking care of server maintenance, updates, and security measures. This can be more convenient for those who prefer a hands-off approach to server management.

Resource Allocation:
In VPS hosting, you have dedicated resources that are exclusively allocated to your virtual server. This means you have guaranteed access to CPU, RAM, and disk space. In shared hosting, resources are shared among multiple users, and the hosting provider determines how much resources each website receives. This can sometimes lead to resource limitations and slower performance if other websites on the same server are utilizing a significant portion of the resources.

Technical Support:
Both VPS hosting and shared hosting typically provide technical support, but the level of support may vary. Shared hosting providers often offer more comprehensive technical support as they cater to users with varying levels of technical expertise. VPS hosting may have more limited support, especially for advanced server configurations or software issues. However, managed VPS hosting services are available, where the hosting provider takes care of server management and support.

Customization:
VPS hosting allows for extensive customization options, as you have full control over the server environment. You can choose the operating system, install specific software or applications, and modify server settings to meet your specific requirements. Shared hosting has limited customization options since the server configuration is standardized for all users on the server.

Overall Performance:
VPS hosting generally offers better performance compared to shared hosting due to dedicated resources. Websites hosted on VPS servers tend to have faster page load times and can handle larger amounts of traffic without performance degradation. Shared hosting, being a shared environment, may experience slower performance during high traffic periods or if neighboring websites utilize resources extensively.

Choosing between VPS hosting and shared hosting ultimately depends on your website's requirements, budget, technical knowledge, and resource needs. It's important to assess your specific needs and choose the hosting solution that best aligns with those requirements.

VPS stands for virtual private server. VPS allows each website to be fully independent as if each were on its own separate machine.

whereas,

a shared sever is only one server which is shared by many websites for hosting.  !-!

Hi friends,

I want to know that What is Vps hosting and shared hosting ?

Shared Web Hosting: If a hosting provider puts numerous websites in a single server then we may call it a shared web hosting server. All websites hosted on a shared server, share a common server resources like memory(RAM) and CPU. It is quite cheap and limited access to server.

VPS(Virtual Private Server): The users of VPS have the ability of accessing  their own virtual space. In a common server they are allocated a special virtual space. It is advanced than shared hosting and more access to server.

When choosing a host one should look for the reliability, reputation, support that the host provides.By looking through the user reviews one can get clear idea about the host because it will contain honest feedback. The host should satisfy the customer's demands without any hidden charges.Providers like 9cubehosting.com help the user to host at affordable rates with their quality service.

Web hosting service is one kind of Internet hosting service which offers individuals and organizations to create their website accessible by the World Wide Web. On the other hand, Shared hosting is nothing but kind of web hosting service where website is placed on the same server as many other sites.

Shared hosting is like living in an apartment where you share a common space with your neighbors. You cannot customize everything but you share maintenance cost and responsibility with your neighbors.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) Hosting is like living in a simplex or half-plex where you can customize everything to your own tastes. However, you still need to manage your own area.
